questionmark Posted December 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Chevron Corp (CVX) and Transocean Ltd. were asked by a Brazilian federal prosecutor to suspend all activity in Brazil and pay 20 billion reais ($10.7 billion) in damages after an oil spill last month."Chevron and Transocean weren't capable of controlling the damages from a spill of 3,000 barrels of oil, which proves a lack of environmental planning and management," the prosecutor's office in Campos, Rio de Janeiro state, said today in an e-mailed statement. They refuse to follow Chevron rules when working, don't follow even Brazil's crappy safety rules for worker safety, and their shoddy work is what actually CAUSED the spill in the first place. Now Brazil is telling them to pay AND get out... It figures... I imagine that's a hazard of being a foreign company using local labour. Doesn't make it right. But, what are you gonna do? Weird, i also have a good friend in the oil industry, and he told me about Chevron crappy standards and how they didnt follow Brazil`s "crappy safety rules for worker safety". It figures...
