In the aftermath of the wars since Vietnam there has been no real public appreciation for the sacrifices by the troops involved. Should it be different this time?

As a retired soldier, who has marched in many parades, and really didn't enjoy it... I think it would be nice for the people to march and the soldiers to stand on the sidelines and drink beer and cheer ...
