"Deliberative" Senate gripped by paralysis

(Reuters) - The Senate is under the gun to pass a transportation bill that would rev up road construction and create or save millions of jobs. But in the month since the chamber started considering the bill, it has faced gridlock worse than a Los Angeles freeway at rush hour. Feuding parties loaded up the highway bill with more than 100 amendments covering everything from birth control to foreign money laundering. The big losers here will be the American people.

I believe these folks know that the system is near collapse. It costs at least one million dollars to run for these positions and considerably more depending which State one runs in. Anyone who raises that kind of cash will do whatever it takes, within the law usually, to remain in office. They are more interested in group CYA tactics than making decisions based on good stewardship. They are products of a broken system and cannot make positive changes.

100 amendments? Really? It's just sickening and the sooner the whole rotten edifice fails, the better off we'll all be. It was once a great honor to be a US Senator. Now it's like being a used car salesman.
