Left-Field Posted April 13, 2012 #2 Share Posted April 13, 2012 (edited) It's unbelievable what some people regard as "therapy" treatment. Within the article linked to in the OP I couldn't help but notice that the Judge Rotenburg Center (for the disabled) also lists the use of the following as acceptable forms of "therapy" in their handbook: Overcorrection: Requiring, with physical force if necessary, a student to repeat an action many times Spanks, Pinches, Muscle Squeezes Vapor Spray to the face Brief Cool Shower Bad Tastes Aromatic Aroma broken under the nose Manual Restraint - such as the "basket hold" for a period of time Mechanical Restraints - such as handcuffs and / or ankle cuffs Takedowns: Several staff forcing a student to the floor and being held there until they stop struggling Mat Rolling: Rolling an individual into a mat or rug for a period of time PRN InjectionsSource It seems parents can't trust any organizations with their kids anymore. Englishgent Posted April 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2012 I thought this sort of treatment of metally disadvantaged people went out with the Victorian era. Sadly it still goes on today and those responsible should be put away for a very long time......and every day given the same sort of treatment they dished out to those who for whatever reason were in their 'care'
+and-then Posted April 13, 2012 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2012 I cannot even imagine what success such "treatment" could provide or how it would be quantified. I'm sure there is "science" that supports some degree of validity for "aversive" therapy or a center like this couldn't exist but this was sickening. This was like something you'd hear leaked from Guantanamo.

Paracelse Posted April 15, 2012 #6 Share Posted April 15, 2012 How normal ordinary people could even work in such an environment? The employes are just as much criminals as the bosses!

Babe Ruth Posted April 15, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2012 How disgusting! It reminds me of The Lucifer Effect, as described by Philip Zimbardo in the Stanford Prison Experiment. And half of US christians approve of torture....ain't no wonder.

+DieChecker Posted April 16, 2012 #10 Share Posted April 16, 2012 And I thought the shock collars that my Father-in-Law puts on his hunting dogs to train them is cruel. This is practically on the Soulless level of evil.
