National Guard withdrawing 900 troops from U.S.-Mexico border

The 19-month deployment of 1,200 National Guard troops on the southwest border has hurt recruiting efforts and threatened to strain diplomatic relations with Mexico, Brian J. Lepore, a director at the U.S. Government and Accountability Office, told a House homeland security subcommittee hearing Tuesday.

Seriously though, the National Guard could never have been a long term 'fix' to the problem...

Way too expensive to maintain on active duty for long periods of time - plus disruptive to the local

economies that the troops are activated from...

Also, with the rotational tours between the US/Mex border, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.. the Guard and Reserve

The Obama administration deployed the National Guard to build access roads for border patrols and to help spot smugglers. The extra manpower was intended to bridge the gap while U.S. Customs and Border Patrol hired an additional 1,200 agents. National Guard troops could man watchtowers and stare at closed-circuit television screens of the fence line but were prohibited from making arrests,

I think we can slow the flow within weeks if we as a nation had the will to do so. All it requires is removing the incentive for them to come here. For the average person that might require spending a lot more money on produce. For those with more means it would cost much more for painter's, masons, roofers and landscaping workers. So the need for border guards would be dramatically reduced if these folks couldn't expect to earn a living here. Like so many other problems we face in this country today, we are the cause. We should either get serious about it or shut up about it IMO. But a law should be passed that any voter fraud by an illegal is automatic imprisonment. And any campaign proven to encourage such fraud be disqualified from that election.

Obama, since day one, has championed and added legislation to protect illegal immigrants and give them rights.

How can you read this information and not understand? The bill that was introduced last year and NOT by Obama (was blocked by REPUBLICANS) created a path to citizenship. It did NOT legalize all illegals. It was rational legislation to address the issue of illegal aliens already living in the US. The second article is from a more specious source of conservative BS in AZ, but the primary thing is that the justice department is defending federal election laws. That is, DOING IT's JOB. You can twist your opinion all you want but you can't make up crap.
