sorry if it's a repost...

what is this thing? Any suggestions? I know you're all comedians, so go ahead and waste everyone's time posting "hilarious" comments...

but seriously, anyone seen this animal before?

I could not get a clear image of it on my computer from any video source, so I can't tell what it looks like, but I found two comments on it:

--one said it was just baby owls

--another said the video claimed it was just a "poorly-known bird with a strange appearance"

If you have anything in English to post then bring it. Since I don't speak Spanish I have no clue what's being said and the video doesn't show much.

Some kind of nightjar, or nighthawk would be my guess.

Looks kind of 'owlish' IMO. Doesn't really look like some "strange reptile-bird" to me.

Which are related to owls and nightjars (googled). So maybe we are in the right family, as opposed to an unknown or cryptid.

@Tapirmusic, What do you think? Have you compared it to some mentioned?

I still can't get a good picture of it.

i think Oniomancer has it, looks alot like a potoo, i made a gif of what we can see in the video. Nothing really reptilian about it. frogmouth bird of some sort for sure.

I don't know what exact member it is, but it does look like a member of the nyctibiidae family (I wonder if I spelled it correctly?).

I was looking for something related in Mexico as per the video. But then again, who knows where the video was actually shot or if it was a pet.

Clearly it's a chupacabras. I defy anyone to disagree with me.

I have to admit, I've never heard of one of these birds before......strange looking little bugger really. I'll have to add this one to my data bank. I think that if I'd seen it in the wild I might well have freaked out myself.

Thanks for posting it.

Depends...does it glow in the dark?

BTW, I just love the name "Potoo"! :w00t:

Yeah I liked that video too. Loved how it reacted to being scratched on the head. Though I agree with one of the comments I think that is a young or baby eagle owl. Still very cute

If you want something resembling an archaeopterix, try a hoatzin:

Wow, didn't know you got frog-mouth birds, that's really cool. So it's just that beak is really small at the end of the mouth as apposed to the beak being the actual mouth?

OMG it looks like one of those furby things!!!! LOLZ

Tawny Frogmouth!

Pretty certain this is what it is.

We have lots of them in the backyard of my parents house :)

Cool little creatures!

Frogmouth is the first thing that popped into my head also.

Could be a potoo also, I guess. There is apparently one species called a Great Potoo.

Its not any type of frogmouth bird, they are not in the Americas. I would say it's a nightjar.

Anyone speak Spanish here? Maybe it's just a video of a common bird then someone else made the video out to be about a 'reptilian bird'.
