Vastu

Big Bad Voodoo

Hi Umers!

Recently I wrote about ancient doctrine of Feng Shui. Quote:

Professor Max Knoll suggested in a 1951 lecture that qi (life energy) is a form of solar radiation. As space weather changes over time, and the quality of qi rises and falls over time,Feng shui with a compass might be considered a form of divination that assesses the quality of the local environment—including the effects of space weather. wiki

Based on Krotser and Coe's discovery of an Olmec hematite artifact in Mesoamerica, radiocarbon dated to 1400-1000 BC, astronomer John Carlson has hypothesized that the Olmec might have used the geomagnetic lodestone earlier than 1000 BC for geomancy.

I also started this thread before which was not been visited as I wanted to be.

Anyway, I search a little and found out about Vastu. That was indian doctrine. I never heard it before about it. Here is from wiki:

Vastu shastra (vāstu śāstra, also vastu veda and vastuvidya, "science of construction", "architecture") is an ancient doctrine which consists of precepts born out of a traditional view on how the laws of nature affect human dwellings.[1] The designs are based on directional alignments. It is primarily applied in Hindu architecture, especially for Hindu temples, although it covers other domains, including vehicles, vessels, furniture, sculpture, etc. The foundation of Vastu is traditionally ascribed to the mythical sage Mamuni Mayan (Mahaa-muni Maya, a daanava/demon refeditormed by tapasyaa/austerities) in South and Vishvakarman in North India.

The five elements are as follows.Earth.water,air,fire,space

Space - The akasha provides shelter to all the above elements. It is also considered the primary conductor of all energy sources within the universal context – physical energies such as sound and light, social energies such as psychological and emotional, and cognitive energies such as intellect and intuition.

Energy is primarily considered as emanating from the center of the building. it comes from center of the building. It originates from subtle earth energy called Vaastu Purusha and subtle cosmic energy (Unified Field) called Vastu Purusha which meet in the center of the building and then spread outward in all directions. these two energies unite and form the five elements which then distribute in the for corner zones. Vaastu energy emanates from the central part of the house (Brahmasthan) and not from the east. (Pranava Veda and Vaastu Shastras). This energy is a mixture of Vaastu energy, which is subtle energy from the earth, and Vastu energy which is subtle energy from Consciousness itself. Many assumptions are made about Vaastu Science that are completely untrue. From these assumptions people have made up ways to "correct vaastu" by selling yantras, crystals etc. for that purpose. This is completely innapropriate as there is nowhere in the Vaastu Shastras that indicates that any of these devices can correct faulty Vaastu. Once a person becomes educated in Vaastu Shastra by an authentic Shilpi Guru (teacher of Vaastu shastras) then it becomes clear that these ideas are erroneous.

The central area in all mandala is the Brahmasthana. Mandala "circle-circumference" or "completion", is a concentric diagram having spiritual and ritual significance in both Buddhism and Hinduism. The space occupied by it varies in different mandala – in Pitha (9) and Upapitha (25) it occupies one square module, in Mahaapitha (16), Ugrapitha (36) and Manduka (64), four square modules and in Sthandila (49) and Paramasaayika (81), nine square modules. The Pitha is an amplified Prithvimandala in which, according to some texts, the central space is occupied by earth. The Sthandila mandala is used in a concentric manner.

The most important mandala are the Paramasaayika Mandala of 81 squares and especially the Manduka/ Chandita Mandala of 64 squares. The normal position of the Vastu Purusha (head in the northeast, legs in the southwest) is as depicted in the Paramasaayika Mandala. However, in the Manduka Mandala the Vastu Purusha is depicted with the head facing east and the feet facing west.

Vastu as an alternative to Chinese Feng Shui. This is an erroneous assumption as the two fields are completely different. Vaastu Science and Technology is concerned with building from the ground up. There is very little that can be done to an existing structure to change the Vaastu effect.

Famous Vastu Consultant In India is a living organism. Vastu books of Hinduism explain the secrets about the health of a construction or a building. Similarly, Feng Shui which originated in China 4000 years ago ensures improved health, better sleep, harmonious family relationship, longevity, active sex life, wealth, fame. Brahma Sthala, Yin and Yang are explained. Vastu and Feng Shui are important for happy living.

If you take away all the spiritual trappings of both of these there could still be a kernel of reason in them. People need vitamin D that comes from sunlight so a south facing house in the northern hemisphere any architectural necessities for a comfortable temperature would increase body health and having a tidy house that decreases stress levels - these are all things that would make a house a better place to be and as a result would make the people living there more tolerant of each other.

I run into Feng Shui pretty often in my job, and not just in China but in the States and Europe. I don't know how valid all the rules are -- they seem to be applied arbitrarily and as convenient -- but I keep my mouth shut as in these projects I am not paying the bills. That is a point, though -- the bills for these experts make the ideas a profitable business.

I would add however that they are probably just as useful as other consultants.

My opinion is that the notions of feng shui are issues of practicality dressed up with a touch of mystery and magic. A house built with visual appeal, good ventilation, considerations of heating from the Sun, with sensible arrangements and efficient use of space and materials is good. There is no need to qi or anything else to sell the idea that the house is well made. These extraneous ideas are not needed. Today they help sell the services of the feng shui practitioner.

I knew someone that hired a fend shui specialist to check out the construction site for their home. The question was what alterations that person would make. They did not attempt to change the blue prints. That intruded on the architects realm. They told the homeowner to rotate the building 5 degrees to line up with the life forces of the land. They had to make some changes to justify the $20K fee.

The issue is these so called vaastu specialists mix and match a lot - they even do feng shui, crystal thingies, some reiki asnd stuff like that ...all together.

I met one lady who did all that at the same time.

I asked her wouldn't it be good if she stuck to one specialty? :innocent:

But she doesn't want to. She said that all the fields synched with each other and with her.

She did the vaastu, cleansing, spiritual thingamajig in the house of a friend of mine - promised him that his family's life would be great from the moment the ceremonies/rituals are completed.

Hogwash - there was no change in anything. his life was as normal as it was before - with the joys and pains just like before.

These spiritual vaastu feng shui crystal swamis are all frauds.

The feng shui guy also came to our office. He installed these really stupid looking reflective triangles to dissipate the electromagnetic fog from our work area. Then he sees this big quartz crystal plate I dug up years ago. He comes over and he does some mumbo jumbo and tells me how lucky I am to have such powerful life forces near me to protect me. I also had a collection of more interesting minerals nearby such as catapleites. He was looking at them trying to figure out what to say so I helped him out. I pointed out that all of the tips of the quartz crystals were broken due to the dynamite used to open up the pit. I told him it was still pretty although heavily damaged. He slunk out there.

Kind of reminds me of people hiring Dowsers to find water wells for them. When follow up geology reports usually indicate that it didn't matter where they dug, they would have hit water, as the water table is at the same point below the ground everywhere on that plot of land. It is mostly superstition in my opinion.
