Why do people bother with insurance?

If you get the forms from HMRC to opt out from NICs and then take out a private healthcare policy instead its cheaper.

You are left with more money in your pocket.

Why do people bother with insurance?

A lot of people don't bother if they have nothing to lose. Medical bills, for a serious illness, can bankrupt you. If you've worked hard and have something to lose you either have insurance or risk losing everything.

Services have to be paid and they will take it out of you first if you have anything...without insurance.

While I realise when a debate turns political some people can get a little 'hot under the collar' is there any need to start the swearing and abuse?

As was pointed out the NHS is not free it is paid for through NICs. The NIC paid by someone working 40 hrs a week on minimum wage is more than the cost of private healthcare. Heck we could privatise the NHS and make employers give all workers free private healthcare policies instead of their NICs and its still cheaper for them too.

Dont you see it?

I think you are the one who is not seeing it. Just how much Healthcare do you think I could buy for 12.12 pounds a week??? How much out-of-work benefits could I also get from that figure??

Just for healthcare I pay c450pounds a month (euro equivalent)because I choose to use Private healthcare, as is my right and I become less of a burden on the State. I do not know where you get your figures from...

You also appear to be intent on derailing this thread.

When I moved to Thialand 5 years ago I took out private medical insurance.with one of the countries leading companies.

Here are a few things to consider. (I am aware that insurance companies do differ in their cover but most are pretty much the same)

The average cost of basic cover is around £140 per month. The full cover is many times this amount.

The basic cover will not cover you for visits to a doctors surgury or any medication supplied. You must attend a hospital. In other words it has to be something pretty serious before they consider covering costs.

The basic cover will pay (for example) for initial cancer treatment, ie scans, chemo, radiotherapy etc, but will NOT cover expenses for medication to prevent a return of the cancer.

Insurance companies will not coiver pre-existing conditions.

Insurance companies will do all they can to wriggle out of paying for treatment. This in itself is a worrying time and detremental to the patients well being.

The NHS covers pre-exisiting conditions.

The NHS covers visits to your local GP

The NHS covers treatment and medication (prescription charges are still less than the value of the medication in most cases and cancer patients get free prescriptions)

The NHS are not in a position to wriggle out of treating you.

These are just a few pros and cons and I am sure other people could think of many more.

Mr Right Wing.

Privatising the NHS would be the worst thing that any government could ever do and there is no argument you can give which could support it.

Why exactly are you paying £140 a month for?

You go for basic cover + anything likely to get you + the option to pay for anything else in installments as and when. You dont get yourself covered for everything because what are the chances of you needing burns treatment, cancer treatment, a sports physiotherapist, a brain surgeon, an eye doctor, etc, etc, etc all in your life?

You dont buy out of fear you by after logic.

I dont have any empathy for lifes failures who expect other people to pick up the tab.

Such people are/were common In the red lands of North Korea and the Soviet Union. They liked living there because under Socialist ideologies those people who were better than them were made their equals. In the UK this bizarre red animal occupies the hardcore supporters of the Labour Party and fantasizes about the Ruskies of yesterday. Totally oblivious of the economic and social damage done to the state in order to turn it red their culture of entitlement makes them adopt a me, me, me attitude.

In WW2 we also had someone who wasnt a sub-officer but a full one. Only problem is theres a high chance he fought your father lol. Its not me that needs to dissappear to the US but you to North Korea. The British public are naturally right-wing and the socialism will get undone.

Mr Right Wing man you appear to be a clinically certifiable sociopath, have you considered getting treatment for that condition ?

I hope you get it sorted before you inadvertently kill or injure someone. Consider getting a psych assessment before its to late.

If the British were naturally right wing why do you think they are terrified of the Tory party taking away the NHS from them. I think you will find yourself to be very much in a minority, and I hope you choose carefully where you voice your extremist opinions since most right minded people would probably physically assault you if you spoke your odious opinions out loud.

I invite you over here to Ireland so that you can extole your opinions on how well the British looked after the interests of the Irish people during the centuries of occupation. It should be fun to watch you get lynched. I'll even pay your ticket and put you up whilst your here, even buy you a few jars of Guinness to loosen those vocal chords- money well spent.

Do you seriously think that this was/is the case in N Korea and Russia? Sorry, but you are deluded if you think for one minute that all people in those two countries are equal. As for liking living there, I would suggest that most people readily would cross the border from North to South Korea. That is, if they didnt run the risk of being shot for doing so!

They are naturally right wing but as the Conservatives play for the middle ground these days they are lukewarm towards that party. They prefer UKIP and BNP but both parties are too small to be considered worth voting for. Theres also too many extremists in the BNP. Threatening to assault others for not agreeing with your lefty world vision is exactly why Stalin was an evil leader. Sure send the red foot soliders around to give me and others a beating for wanting the NHS privatised. What are you going to do then when you fail to silence us? Pol Pot us?

Precisely, countries run by reds are a disaster.

The reds force their way onto the rest of the population and they hate it so much they prefer to run the risk of getting shot at the border rather than stay. This red cancer needs preventing from spreading and cutting out of our society whenever we find it because if it takes over we'll be like the Ruskies of the past generation.

I'm having trouble fathoming how an individual is being labeled as a nut job because of his political views. Sad really.

An important thing to remember is how great we have it (the Western world, at least) to have the "issues" that we have today. The standard of living has become so high that we call each other names over how our health care should be distributed. I have many relatives from Britain, I talk to them often, and they have no major issue with how they're taken care of. They certainly have far less problems with it than we do accross the pond. As for Obamacare, I'll admit I'm not too stoked about paying the major tax hike that will undoubtedly ensue when it comes in effect. I'm very healthy and can't remember the last time I needed a doctor, so I'll basically be paying for nothing. I will however sleep better at night knowing that working families will be able to have coverage for their children.

One more thing. Britain's healthcare model wouldn't work in the U.S. because of how much we spend on our military. Socialized medicine would break us even more than we already are. If we would cut the "defence" spending (ironic because as Ron Paul says, it only promotes more war) down to a necessary level, cut the social programs that DO NOT WORK, then we could certainly afford a model such as Britain has. It would even be successful, and the taxes would still be lower for Americans than they are today.

First things first though, America - audit the Fed and end the global empire.

Mr Right Wing, I wouldn't get anyone to beat you up - after all I am a pacifist. If there was a lynching you would have brought it on yourself by voicing your opinion on how the Irish caused the death of 2million Irishmen through refusing British aid (or other similar gems). That sort of lie just isn't tolerated in Republican circles - a bit to trigger happy with idiots. By your own words you would be hung - nothing to do with Reds.

It is not your political opinions which lead me to call you a sociopath, it is your total lack of empathy with anyone else in the world who doesn't share your current situation. It is also your repeated expressed wish to inflict direct harm to others for not been a Right Wing sympathizer. You can hold deluded right wing fantasies without been a sociopath.

I really wonder if you do speak all this rubbish in public, or do you just reserve it for the anonymity of been a troll on the internet.

Definition of a sociopath - see how many boxes Mr Right Wing ticks - I spotted a few;

1. Having seen your earlier comments I dont believe you.

2. Eh? What in Gods name are you on about?

3. Lie? What lie? What comment? What in Gods name are you on about?

4. So I'm to be hung for lying in a comment I've never made? So you'd justify killing me by creating delusions and basing a kangeroo court on them?

5. I had no childhood development problems thankyou.

6. Eh? Show me the comment where those who arent right wing should be harmed.

7. Private business being more efficent than state is a delusion?

Let me ask you if you actually believe in what you just wrote?

If you think these instances of non-existant comments, lies and threats to harm non right wngers really happened then you're psychotic. I can already see you're a dangerous individual. You need to be putting on a list somewhere incase you attack someone.

I remember distinctly you making exactly the comment about how the Irish were directly responsible for the Famines consequences and how the British offered aid which was refused. It was about a year ago - but I have a long and detailed memory for bigotry.

You also said that the British gained nothing from the Empire and in fact the Government paid to provide "services" to the colonies leaving it out of pocket.
