Hunters baffled by dog-like animal found

Still Waters

Vets in Ukraine are struggling to identify a 'mutant' animal shot by hunters in a remote area of the former Soviet republic.

Locals say it is a mystery 'Chupacabra' - allegedly sighted a few times in recent years - that preys on rabbits, goats and house animals.

Grey in colour and with ‘fangs’ and a longish neck, it has shorter front legs, slightly resembling a kangaroo, while also showing a likeness to a dog and a fox, say those who have seen it.

Nobody is "struggling to identify" this animal and it is not a "mutant"

It's a red fox with mange.

Red Fox with mange

Clearly one is mange-ier than the other, but I think the point is clear.

And "slightly resembling a kangaroo"? Seriously? Kangaroos are plantigrade locomotors and this fox clearly had legs for digitigrade locomotion. Come on....

They don't seem to think so -

But I cannot identify what kind of animal it is. For example, its canine teeth are similar similar to a fox, but smaller in size - like a marten.

Sorry about the copyright infringement... wasn't paying attention.. :o

Wait a minute.... there are pictures of two different animals on that page. The top one, the one I meant to post, is most clearly a mangy fox. The second could be a juvenile fox or a marten, but it's by no mean a mystery creature. The two different animal pics don't give me high hopes for the authenticity of the story, either.

remember seeing the first picture somewhere before.. and if i recall correctly, it was of a supposed chupacabra shot in texas some time back.

As for the other.. perhaps it is a juvenile raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides)

I

To address the statement that perhaps a dog and fox got it on.. not likely as they are not the same species

Hmm...

Haven't supposed chupacabras that look very similar to this been caught and revealed to simply be coyotes or foxes with mange?

I think that's all this is.

It doesn't look like a fox to me. The head almost looks like an otter or something .

It's cute . I'm sad its dead .

This is what a chupacabra is supposed to look like, and I don't think they're native to Ukraine. Mexico and southern Texas, mainly.

Not really, a Chupacabra is supposed to look like this:

The thing in your picture is simply a canine that someone started calling a Chupacabra at some point.

And as for the OP, two words - Daily Mail. That's all you need to know.

I think it looks more like this than the fox, just with a smaller tail. This is a kangeroo with Mange

Remember when Chupacabra's looked like this:

chupawitness.jpg

Then at some point they changed to looking something like this:

chupa7.jpg

A few mangy dog/fox/raccoon photos come out and these people change their minds and say "Actually, that's what a Chupacabra looks like."

Are you sure that's a kangaroo? Kangaroo's have very rigid tails. The pretty much use it as a third foot, I can't imagine them being able to wrap it around themselves. Also they have large ears and wide snouts.

Is it just me or does the animal in the second picture look totally different to the other two? Mind you it is the Daily Mail; hardly known for it's high-brow journalism... Must be a slow day, no reports on Polish teenage single-mum hoodies with drug problems stealing everyone's jobs or something

Badger?

That's kind of what I wondered. For the second picture anyway.

Dude, get some money and head for the Red Light district, all the freaky action you will ever want, as well as a few naked dogs... ;)

I agree 100% imaginarynumber1. Mangy fox and a mangy marten. The story itself is a bad joke.

But here is some more on mange in ukraine (mange-chupa...whatever)

http://bigfooteviden...-torch-and.html

Anyway the nasty, rusty rimmed trays, blue/greenish hospital colors and dirty cart does scream of some old/abandoned/ill-kept clinic/hospital in Eastern Europe/Russia though. But I looked deeper and I see that "east2west" submitted the pictures. They have submitted weird stories/pictures before. Some may remember the tree growing in the lung story:

http://news.sky.com/...nside-mans-lung

...pictures by east2west

As far as I can find there is no real east2west, and that is where the story takes a weird turn.

Now I have found many references to east2west. One from a media company (semi/pseudo-religious?) run out of the states. I also found that catholic.org picked the story up too:

http://www.catholic....ry.php?id=47362

...anyway

A found a few links that had "East2West British news agency" with references to a bunch of linkin profiles all to Russian/East European women.

http://nl.linkedin.com/in/kalashnikova

http://uk.linkedin.c...tova/28/540/175

http://uk.linkedin.c...enko/51/5b7/7a9

Which leads to:

http://www.linkedin.com/in/rmottola82

Who has that company in the states

http://www.east2west....com/about.html

Now what is the first thing you guys think?

Well I then found these stories with images supplied by "east2west"

http://www.telegraph...ort-skirts.html

http://www.guardian....ina-zatuliveter

http://themoscownews.../188263585.html

That kinda confirmed my suspicions anyway. I did find the original story is out of Russia (from what I can tell) here with NO COPYRIGHT/OWNERSHIP in the pics:

http://englishrussia...hunting-season/

Which leads to a blogger here:

http://2leep.com/bar...686.html#cutid1

I find this all very ****in weird. The story here is not the mange/chupa angle either...

But what do I know. :gun:

"I know nothing!" -sgt Schultz

I was reading somewhere that someone tested an animals dna, something the locals killed and believed was a chupacabra, but turned out it was a coyote and a grey wolf cross breed......so anything that resembles a dog, is probably either a mangey dog or a hybrid of some sort!
