Still Waters Posted August 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2012 An international group of prominent scientists has signed The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness in which they are proclaiming their support for the idea that animals are conscious and aware to the degree that humans are -- a list of animals that includes all mammals, birds, and even the octopus. But will this make us stop treating these animals in totally inhumane ways? While it might not sound like much for scientists to declare that many nonhuman animals possess conscious states, it's the open acknowledgement that's the big news here. The body of scientific evidence is increasingly showing that most animals are conscious in the same way that we are, and it's no longer something we can ignore. http://news.discover...#mkcpgn=rssnws1

I always thought that most animals had the genetic ability at least, if not the actual conscious trait. We just found this open niche and have done quite well exploiting it. They use their intelligence in other ways and also build or find for themselves what they need to be successful in their niche.
Simbi Laveau Posted August 28, 2012 #3 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Octopus are supposed to be very intelligent . I used to love octopus and squid as food, but after learning about their behaviors and intelligence, along with cuttlefish,I stopped eating it completely ,about 5 years ago .
