There was a full moon the next night on july 18th, 2008. I imagine that is what we are seeing in this photo. An almost full moon with some clouds.

I have been in private contact with Russians before (online chess with someone from fkg Vladivostok, lol, bull****ting about family and relational problems with a guy from Petersburg, and so on) and I have a brother who regularly travels to Russia for his work.
