Sword Question

I would think if you picked up a stick and wielded it like a sword you would find out which muscles would naturally develop.

Arms, back, core, legs... Kind of everything. You need more than just improved arm strength. Depends on what kind of sword action you are doing. Fencing, reenactment play, theater, general want to swing a blade around, or other blade arts?

And like Lady K said- use something else and swing it around a bit. Feel what muscles you are working as you do this.

I have a Chinese broadsword type in mind.

One handed slashing, I would not concentrate on any muscles but on the dexterity with the sword.

I think I would practice with something else first so I didn't take my leg off. You will find out by doing that what muscles you need to concentrate on.

I have a Chinese broadsword type in mind.

Lots of general fitness and flexibility. Sport fencing (Sabre or Epee) would be a good start.
