Render Posted October 4, 2012 #76 Share Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) Well except that the US does not lead all countries in the percentage of people believing in creationism. % of people that believe in evolution: Sweden 68% Germany 65% China 64% Mexico 34% US 28% Russia 26% Saudi Arabia 23% So even by HuttonEtAl's definition of ignorance the US is not last. I also found these: % that believe in creationism Saudi Arabia 75% Turkey 60% Indonesia 57% Brazil 47% US 40% Russia 34% Once again the US is not last (or first in this case). HuttonEtAl's claim is refuted and shown to be false, even by his measuring critera, which is ridiculous in the first place. I shoot, I score! where do these numbers come from? A study published in Science compared attitudes about evolution in the United States, 32 European countries (including Turkey) and Japan. The only country where acceptance of evolution was lower than in the United States was Turkey (25%). Public acceptance of evolution was most widespread (at over 80% of the population) in Iceland, Denmark and Sweden.[127] Europe In Europe, literalist creationism is more widely rejected, though regular opinion polls are not available. Most people accept that evolution is the most widely accepted scientific theory as taught in most schools. In countries with a Roman Catholic majority, papal acceptance of evolutionary creationism as worthy of study has essentially ended debate on the matter for many people. In the United Kingdom, a 2006 poll on the "origin and development of life" asked participants to choose between three different perspectives on the origin of life: 22% chose creationism, 17% opted for intelligent design, 48% selected evolutionary theory, and the rest did not know.[ In Italy, prime minister Silvio Berlusconi wanted to retire evolution from schools in the middle level; after one week of massive protests, he reversed his opinion.[172] United States 1997 Gallup poll[citation needed] Public Young Earth Creationism 44% Belief in God-guided evolution 39% Belief in evolution without God 10% Scientists Young Earth Creationism 5% Belief in God-guided evolution 40% Belief in evolution without God 55% 2008 Gallup poll[135] Republican Young Earth Creationism 60% Belief in God-guided evolution 32% Belief in evolution without God 4% Democrat Young Earth Creationism 38% Belief in God-guided evolution 39% Belief in evolution without God 17% Independent Young Earth Creationism 40% Belief in God-guided evolution 36% Belief in evolution without God 19% http://en.wikipedia....t_for_evolution http://en.wikipedia....iki/Creationism and that's one the major problems in the US, the lack of seperation of church and state/politics. Walter White Posted October 4, 2012 #77 Share Posted October 4, 2012 Okay Walter, careful, there be creationists here, don't start arguing it only causes you anger, you're never going to convince them anyway, leave them be, it doesn't matter.... Step away from the message board, step away...
questionmark Posted October 4, 2012 Author #78 Share Posted October 4, 2012 and that's one the major problems in the US, the lack of seperation of church and state/politics. You cannot separate the personal believes of a politician from his politics. But partially you are right: There where a parliamentary session is opened by a prayer session there is no separation of religion and state. questionmark Posted October 4, 2012 Author #79 Share Posted October 4, 2012 Okay Walter, careful, there be creationists here, don't start arguing it only causes you anger, you're never going to convince them anyway, leave them be, it doesn't matter.... Step away from the message board, step away... Walter, you might not convince any of the creationists, but on these message boards there are also those who are sincerely looking for answers. If we just let the creationists divulge their superstition within a few years our scientific level will sink even further that what it, sadly, has reached already. Think about that.
CommunitarianKevin Posted October 4, 2012 #80 Share Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) where do these numbers come from? You know the answer is Google... You can find anything to support any argument on there... That is another problem with people...for whatever reason, they believe anything they read...I'm not sure why... Won't argue.
