[Merged] Declassified

Officially, aliens have never existed but flying saucers very nearly did. The National Archives has recently

published never-before-seen schematics and details of a 1950s military venture, called Project 1794, which aimed to build a supersonic flying saucer.

The newly declassified materials show the U.S. Air Force had a contract with a now-defunct Canadian company to build an aircraft unlike anything seen before. Project 1794 got as far as the initial rounds of product development and into prototype design. In a memo dating from 1956 the results from pre-prototype testing are summarized and reveal exactly what the developers had hoped to create.

The saucer was supposed to reach a top speed of “between Mach 3 and Mach 4, a ceiling of over 100,000 ft. and a maximum range with allowances of about 1,000 nautical miles,” according to the document.

If the plans had followed through to completion they would have created a saucer, which could spin through the Earth’s stratosphere at an average top speed of about 2,600 miles per hour. Wow. It was also designed to take off and land vertically (VTOL), using propulsion jets to control and stabilize the aircraft. Admittedly the range of 1,000 nautical miles seems limited in comparison to the other specifications – but if you’d hopped on the disk in New York it could’ve had you in Miami within about 24 minutes.

The document also hints that the product development seemed to be going better than planned; “the present design will provide a much superior performance to that estimated at the start of contract negotiations.”

Hey all!

So the US military made some new statements and gave out some evidence to back that up on Daily mail...

They said they were working on a flying saucer shaped aircraft that worked back in 1950...

So this confirms that US has inded worked on saucer like crafts. If you search the web you might find many more websites which have very

incredible footage and information on this topic. So if they had a working prototype fully operational to what did that evolve too?

62 years went by and i wonder what did this plan, operation turn in-to?

A more advanced high tech flying craft, spy craft, maybe they just quit the project, but they wouldnt if they had results?

Only thing that the project needed was a more powerfull energy source in my opinion.

So what you guys think?

I agree that the propulsion system was what broke the camel's back.

They could reverse engineer the shape and look of the alien craft, but were utterly in the dark about the propulsion system.

A disc shape is certainly no good aerodynamically; a frisbee or discus flies because it spins, and the few prototypes they toyed with seemed to miss that rather important fact. Almost certainly, if there is anything to the notion of 'flying saucers' at all, they wouldn't rely on aerodynamic Lift. But I suppose, if the U.S. Air Force had, like it nearly always seems to have, an unlimited budget, there'd be no harm wasting a few millions on design doodles like this.

This was the well-known Project Silverbug, but if Ben Rich and others are correct then they advanced much further than that over the decades. I would hope so, given all the time, money and effort that was put into the whole UFO program--the classified program.

Interesting

And there are people who reported seeing these supersonic saucers on air bases, so that means the project was not simply abandoned. I have heard that stability was one of the major problem with "our" saucers, but they found ways to overcome that.

These craft could travel up to the edge of space, and theoretically beyond if they had the right kinds of propulsion systems.

Exactly. This is why no matter what shape of aircraft the engineers designed then or now, those designs and craft are still subject to our known laws of physics and inhibited by the same basic propulsion systems we've been using for decades. . The fact they tried to duplicate the flying disc design is very telling in itself.
