see, when i post the picture response,, IF you've got half a brain... you're going to be floored...

I've got a bad feeling I'm going to be floored but not for the reason you want me to be...

i'm giving you all a chance to prepare for this... there are MORE people at this site than just you guys.. maybe one of them will swing past this afternoon and drop an insight... maybe not... sheesh.. impatient lot.. for what? you're all set and revved up thinking this leads nowhere... and i'm giving you the oppurtunity to prepare for that.. i'll post the pic this evening or tomorrow.. you should be spending this time preparing for a big shock if you're still dismissing this.. and worse is you can actually SEE the embedded image, but still think it's nothing... you are never going to see life the same way after this.

This seems just a tad over-dramatic, dontcha think? I don't know what you think we should be preparing for and how we should be preparing since you haven't shown us yet what the point of this is. I didn't see anybody indicate that the image is of nothing, I also thought it was peppers. I'll try to be patient for the big shock and the change in the way I view life.

Obviously if you stare at it for a bit longer it becomes vegetable porn ............

the problem.. is how ouija said "obviously if you stare at it, it becomes veg porn"

he didn't explain why it was obvious..

i am very curious why that is...

i'd like to... but i was hoping an actual discussion would arise at some point.. see, it really irks me how someone like ouija would SEE IT - then dismiss it.

why?

just discuss that part .. why is doesn't matter..

then i'll post the picture response of why it DOES ******* matter...

My comment was said just as a joke because the thread seemed to have come to a halt. If you stare at something long enough you begin to see other images(clouds are a good example of this), and I'm guessing you think it will always be of a sexual nature, am I right? Or are you saying that men will see something sexual? I am female ........... it says so right there under my avatar!

this is one of the entrances to the shopping mall in the town i grew up in.

qgy2w.jpg

..see where the *spam filter*ual subliminal message is?

right where everyone can see it.

even little girls and little old ladies.

before this image was placed up there, there was another similar image on the opposite entrance (i didn't get a photo of that) they renovated both entrances and placed those 'box things' on top, someone thought it necessary to once again place a sexual subliminal message at the entrance to the mall..

you may recall earlier subliminal messages.. the ones that embedded the word 'sex' into the image..

what we're seeing here is a variation of that same theme.

anyone connecting any dots yet?

yes. i am hoping this is something that will prompt you to make changes in the way you perceive the situation.

probably best i respond to this tomorrow, when you've had a chance to see the full version pic i've just posted.

I believe he is trying to imply that the peppers are sexually suggestive and that it's a hidden subliminal message. I call pareidolia.

I'm guessing he's keying on the pepper's stems as being phallic, it's about the only thing I can possibly see. They sure are odd-looking phalli though as they are bent at the end; you nailed it with pareidolia. It's saying a lot more about unit's perception and what that pic suggests to him than it is about the prevalence/dangers of subliminal advertising in my opinion. If he thinks this is suggestive and subliminal, he'll have a field day with ads for Major League Baseball; lots of them include bats and balls.

I must admit that I didn't see the image "unit" mentioned until after he stated what he saw. Once he made that statement though, I can definitely see how the yellow pepper looks a lot like a woman bent over with her legs spread and her backside being shown.

As for the green pepper's stem being representive of a penis, it's not quite as evident, but not out of the realm of possibility either (imo).

Had I not seen other instances where such things are done (which I will post below) I probably wouldn't believe that what "unit" sees in the image he presented was done purposely. Since I do know such things are done, however, and since the yellow pepper very much resembles a woman bent over with her legs spread I would not be surprised if it was done purposely.

It is worth mentioning that the fact that people don't see it all too easily is the whole point of these subliminal messages. They are meant to be absorbed into your subconscious.

These are two Coke adds that are a bit more obvious to notice (and no, they aren't photoshopped).

coke_subliminal_message.jpg

If you don't see it right away, once you do it's hard to deny it being there.

Below is another example from the Coke company (not quite as blatant though).

subliminal2.png

This last one shows Skittles putting "sex" in your mind through their product in another manner.

0.jpg

skittles.gif

See how they "cleverly" put the skittle with it's "S" right in front of the capital "E" and "X" in the word "explosion" while all the letters that follow are lower case. It's done purposely.

So while people may dispute "unit's" bell peppers being a real subliminal message using sex to subconsciously grab peoples attentions as a means of getting them to enter a store or by a product, the examples I've shown above are pretty obvious.

There are a number of other examples where companies use such subliminal messaging to make their product more appealing to consumers by acting on their subconsciousness.

My sentiments exactly....

Oh, well yes, it's all so obvious now. That stem looks more like a faucet to me, maybe they're trying to get me to upgrade my plumbing hardware. Seriously man, look up, and comprehend, the word, 'pareidolia'.

I have no idea what 'PMSL' means, and you aren't really using the term 'kool-aid drinkers' correctly. You are the one that started this contrived, "I'll tell you in a week why I'm posting this and it will shock you and change the way you look at everything" game, sorry to disappoint. What leftfield posted is more along the lines of what I think of as subliminal advertising, but even those I'm not sure are intentional in the sense that the marketing people intentionally included it to have an effect. It is pretty well established that artists have snuck in these kind of images, especially in ice cubes, as a joke or in fun or out of sheer boredom. This also isn't nearly as serious as you make it out to be as studies have already shown that real subliminal advertising is not really that effective and not long-lasting.

Overall the only thing I can recommend is that you steer clear of the produce section at your local market.

Okay, assuming for a moment that what you say is true and advertisers are doing this on purpose: how does it work? I see genitalia in a photo of peppers outside the mall and .......... what? I buy peppers because of this? Even though peppers are not on my list, lol? Do the advertisers not realise that they may also be putting a lot of people off buying peppers?

I think it's much more likely that it's just the artists/photographers having a laugh, as Liquid Gardens says.

As for the coke advert with a woman lying in it ..... that's very contrived. I wouldn't imagine that that was done intentionally. As I said before: some people will see pictures in anything ...... Jesus in a slice of bread, Mary in an apple, and everyone sees pictures in clouds.

Blimey! What a let down. :hmm:

p.s. I also do not know what PMSL means ........ explanation, please.

It looks like PMSL means "P*ssing myself laughing"; maybe unit is the one who should take a break from the koolaid then if bladder control is an issue. On the positive side I learned a new acronym today, so this thread for me is down to only being 99% a waste of time.

Not that you will, but don't let them get to you unit.

I don't think the example you gave was anywhere near as evident as you may believe it to be, but I can definitily see where you're coming from. And it wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was intentionally done. I must admit that I'm still uncertain on it though due to the fact I think they may have positioned the green pepper's stem a little more crudely if they really wanted to sell a subliminal message of sex in that photograph.

Nonetheless the examples I gave are rather evident examples of companies using sumbliminal messages of sex to make their product more appealing to their customers on a subconscious level.

For those that don't understand how or why this works I'll attempt to explain. Most people find sex enjoyable and exciting. The very thought of triggers "positive" responses in most peoples brains.

Well, when you look at a Coke ad (or any other) that has a sexual image hidden in it that acts on your subconscious mind you are more likely to find the product more exciting and pleasurable. It's meant to trigger those same responses that run through your brain when actually having sex (or looking at sexual images, etc).

For that reason you will end up buying the product more impulsively. Without the image acting on you subconsciously you'd be more like to pass on purchasing the item if you weren't all that thirsty to begin with.

It works in other ways as well rather than just influencing people to buy something impulsively.

And it isn't just subliminal sexual messages used to accomplish this type of thing. The thought of money is another way that this is done. Here is an example below.

Now why would a dollar bill be hidden amongst the lettuce on that sandwich?

Well, much like sex people tend to find the thought of having money exciting and appealing. It triggers a "positive" reaction in the majority of our minds.

So again, the purpose is to act on your subconscious in a way that will make you seek that KFC snacker the next time your cruising around and feel like getting something quick to eat. Sure, you may be hungry anyway, but why is that KFC snacker sandwich what you're craving more so than something from any of the other fast food restaurants?

It's also worth mentioning that laws exist which are supposed to make such advertising tactics illegal. The fact that there are laws against it should indicate to people it is obviously a practice purposely used by advertisers. Unfortunately, despite the laws it doesn't seem to prevent companies from doing such things.

People can come down on unit all they like if they disagree about what is present in the bell peppers image, but if that's all you're focused on than you are missing the point he was making.

Maybe he didn't choose the best example, but the point is advertisements all around us use subliminal messages - often times through something sexual being hidden in the image - as a means of making their product more appealing to us by acting on our subliminal minds.
