You have no idea how much I want to say something for that but it is to perfect a setup so I will refrain.

Well, I don't mean to brag...

It's probably from a giant squid... if you know what I mean. ;D

I never would have guessed a marlin . Do the get that big ? I mean its huge ....really huge (this can be the subtle innuendo thread)

I would guess it comes from a big marlin. The eye looks exactly the same

I'm not sure. The eye on this one, does.t even look as big the one they have. They need two hands to hold it . And there aren't many, this big .

Lets hope the old proverb doesn't come about an eye for an eye or the guy that found is in deep sh!t. :w00t:

Gotta love the 'experts'

"According to knoxnews.com, agency spokeswoman Carli Segelson says the eyeball belongs to a marine animal, and possible candidates include a giant squid, a whale or some type of large fish"

Way to 'narrow it down'

It's obviously a fishes eye of some sort.

it does look alot like grey's pic, and it's hard to tell the size without a reference.

even more I would like to know what the last thing that eye saw was

I believe it looks quite similar to the eye of a swordfish

Reportedly solved, belonging to a marlin.

A huge, softball-size eyeball that washed ashore in Pompano Beach, Fla. may have come from a deep sea squid or a large sword fish, the Associated Press reports.

*Snip*

I think I'm going to vote Swordfish, or something simiilar. The skin around the eye looks like fish skin to me.

Other opinions??

LOL. I thought it strange that this had not been posted. I did try a search, but maybe I did not have the whole forum selected??

Looks like I was right it was from a large fish.

So its narrowed down to three possibilities. Just DNA test it already .

A news article I read yesterday said that the eyeball had straight line incisions in it, and it is assumed that a fisherman/angler cut it out after pulliing in a marlin or swordfish.

http://cosmiclog.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/10/15/14451529-giant-eyeball-mystery-solved?lite

"'Experts on site and remotely have viewed and analyzed the eye, and based on its color, size and structure, along with the presence of bone around it, we believe the eye came from a swordfish,' said Joan Herrera, curator of collections at the FWC’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg. 'Based on straight-line cuts visible around the eye, we believe it was removed by a fisherman and discarded.'
