One of my friends is on rockaway . Refused to evacuate . Houses on fire ,power lines down .Too dangerous for emergency crews go in now. Chest high water.

I'm so worried I feel sick .

Our news said with flooding,we will not be completely ,literally, out of the water ,until weds.

Horrible situation. I hope your friend gets through OK but in a terrible situation that is not going to get better for some hours. Please let us know how your friend fares and I wonder how many are in similar distress.

And OMG! Sharks washing in? :o

That is so scary, as if the floods and rain wasn't enough!

Good luck to everyone affected. Really hope you all are ok.

Were I ever to find a shark in my front yard that would be it....I'd move. Honestly, I don't understand these folks who build their expensive homes right on the ocean...the ocean can be (and quite frequently is) extremely dangerous.

I really feel sorry for everyone that is trapped in this situation. Hope all UM members and everyone else too is safe. It could take weeks to get power back to everyone and even longer to clean up. Which I think more will be losing power as this thing moves along with all the snow it is generating.

Well my family survived Sandy. The upstairs light near my desk flickered some and I really thought we would going to lose power but we didn't. There's a ton of leaves on the driveway and scattered around the lawn. I've never seen so many leaves in my life! it's insane.

Work came and picked me up yesterday morning. Just got home. Trees down and power out everywhere although I am in one of the few areas that has it now. It was out as everything here is flashing. Most surrounding communities, including work, are out of power and Met Ed said it could be 7-10 days before it's restored. They said they can't send crews out until the winds drop to below 20mph. Most traffic lights in my area are out. All the stores and malls are closed, even Walmart. Just beginning to be able to get news about how bad it's been. My heart breaks for the Jersey shore.

Massive fire in Queens that destroyed 50 homes from what I've heard. Really hoping archernyc is alright. This storm has been devastating here in eastern PA. Last I heard last night Philadelphia closed all bridges and major highways. Haven't heard about today yet as this is the first I've been where there's power since last night.

Heard from archernyc and she has power. She's ok. That's a relief. New York and Long Island are without power and there's been a lot of damage from water. Beaches are destroyed. It could be a week before the subways are back to operation. Hope everyone else is alright.

This is a good local news site to browse for news about the Jersey shore and also Philadelphia. Boardwalks and amusement parks have been washed to see. Atlantic City is devastated. Things like this aren't supposed to happen here but from what I can gather it was AC that took the direct hit.

Joe Bastardi had a video a few years ago on just how vulnerable NY and NJ are to the "right" kind of hurricane and how unprepared the area is for it. Basically winds out of the east during a high tide and full moon would be catastrophic with a Cat 3 and devastating with a Cat 1 or 2. I think he underestimated. Lived through a few hurricanes here on the Atlantic shore in VA but nothing like you folks are going through. Stay strong and know it does have an end and we will all help as much as we can/

Vids from different points along the Jersey shore. Avalon is one of the pricer towns along the ocean. It's right above Stone Harbor and then the Wildwoods are below that. Cape May is the southern most point of NJ. It's about an hour's drive from Atlantic City to Wildwood.

Woke up to see the power back on. We got pretty luck in my little area. Just over 24 hours without power isnt bad at all.

24 hours isn't bad, I've went 4 days over an ice storm but I bet it takes a week or more to get the electric back on for some. Then there's cleaning up the debris, I hope we don't find more have died. At least Obama is getting on it.
