Still Waters Posted October 31, 2012 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2012 Nine new species of colourful, tree-climbing tarantulas have been discovered in Brazil, including four from a mysterious, ancient genus once thought to have been extinct. The finds highlight how little is still known about the fauna of the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest, a habitat which is under serious threat from human encroachment. 'Instead of the seven species formerly known in the region, we now have sixteen', said Dr Rogério Bertani, a tarantula specialist at the Instituto Butantan in Sao Paulo, who carried out the study. http://www.dailymail...ulas-found.html
Ashotep Posted October 31, 2012 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2012 People have got to stop destroying the rain forest. The world could end up losing some valuable species of plants or animals that may be the cure for cancer or some other major disease. Who knows maybe the fountain of youth exists in the rain forest. I hate spiders, they are so creepy but they are a necessary life form and I respect them for what they are.
s33ker Posted October 31, 2012 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2012 Just looking at pictures of spiders is enough to give me an anxiety attack and make me think ones on me. Nine new specie ,? thankful there in Brazil and not Oz, we have enough creepies here as it is but cool for spider lovers I guess.

Q-C Posted October 31, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2012 (edited) Very cool! My son was poking tarantulas out of their burrows and trees in Ecuador and Peru, about 5 years ago with his grandma. He'll like this. He said the article messed up a few names with the pictures but it is very exciting. Not sure which article he read. evil_kenshin Posted November 6, 2012 #9 Share Posted November 6, 2012 Why cant they discover nine new furry, cozy, snuggly little puppies or kittens?? Its always spiders and bugs. It would be very rare now days to discover a medium to large land based animal that we are unaware of so unfortunately insects are the most likely
