Romney's Phony Hurricane Rally

But the last-minute nature of the call for donations left some in the campaign concerned that they would end up with an empty truck. So the night before the event, campaign aides went to a local Wal Mart and spent $5,000 on granola bars, canned food, and diapers to put on display while they waited for donations to come in, according to one staffer. (The campaign confirmed that it “did donate supplies to the relief effort,” but would not specify how much it spent.)

Empty-handed supporters pled for entrance, with one woman asking, “What if we dropped off our donations up front?”The volunteer gestured toward a pile of groceries conveniently stacked near the candidate. “Just grab something,” he said.

Two teenage boys retrieved a jar of peanut butter each, and got in line. When it was their turn, they handed their “donations” to Romney. He took them, smiled, and offered an earnest “Thank you.”

Romney bought $5k of food for people to “donate” back to him at phony “hurricane” rally

I don't know what to say here. Using a tragedy like this for political gain.

Everyone uses tradagy for political gain.

Like Obama standing at the oil spill actually did anything to help. No he did not. People in charge have to look good for press. Who will pressure them if they don't do anything. Giving money and moving on is the logical thing to do. But the press always wants more.

It is clear that Romney will do and say anything to win this election. If Republicans really wanted the WH so bad, they could have chosen a much better person to run. But they have their own agenda that is beyond the wants and needs of the people they govern. It makes me sick. Our system is F'ed and we really need to come up with a better plan. Ask yourself, why is it that the only people in power are the ones with power and are seeking more power. Our leaders should be people who are educated, respected, logical, and above all humble. The job should be minimum wage or something close. There should not be career politcians. Another interesting question. We have some of the best universities in the world, We teach Sociology, and Political Science. Why is it that we have never had a president who held a Phd, in any of these areas? Or a phd at all. (if im wrong, please someone correct me) If I want a plumer, I call someone who has been taught to plum, not a lawyer.

Mary Matthews (Katharine Hepburn) in “State of the Union” said: “You politicians have stayed professionals only because the voters have remained amateurs.”

Obama is a lawyer and Romney is a Businessman. Who do you think would do better with the economy?

Obama does have a doctorate in law, specializing in Constitutional law. You’d think that would count. But there are two reasons to specialize in Constitutional law. One is to support it; the other is to destroy it. Given Obama’s track record, it’s clear what he studied Constitutional law for.

Thanks for the information I am ignorant to many things political. So do you think Obama is out to destroy our Constitution? For what reason? Believe me, I dont feel like any of these two people will do anything for me.

Anything for a neighbor :gun: I am just outside your bunker door.

So do you think Obama is out to destroy our Constitution? For what reason?

Yes, I honestly believe so. Everything he has tried to do has been one attempt or another to get around the Constitution. One example is his desired ban on ammo, in order to do away with the 2nd Amendment. We can have our guns, but we can’t have the ammo. You see, I don’t believe that the 2nd is there to defend our rights so that we can hunt but to defend ourselves from our own government. Even Justice Ginsberg has stated that she would advise countries trying to come up with their own constitution to not pattern it after us but perhaps South Africa’s. Our Constitution is under attack. The Democratic Party no longer exists; the liberals have morphed it into the Socialist Party of America. And in a way, that’s fine. I wish they would just be honest with themselves. However, Socialism can’t go any farther in this country (after a century of creep) unless the Constitution is rewritten. Socialism is incompatible with what our Founding Fathers originally envisioned. If it is rewritten, then what’s the point of the Great Experiment? That is what Obama is doing. I see through the façade and no one will ever convince me otherwise. The koolaid doesn’t work on me. I can’t leave this country to go someplace else because everyplace else is Socialist. If there was just one bastion of light left, I would go. So I have to stay and fight with every ounce of my being. I am just one voice, one vote. One crying in the wilderness. But I know there is at least half of this country thinking the same thing.

Believe me, I dont feel like any of these two people will do anything for me.

That’s the thing. Romney is very capable of getting this country back on track. He will be a lot better with the economy than Obama. However, He will be unwilling to do what is necessary to help people like you or me. Most people are not aware of the pending disaster that is on the horizon. Heavy austerity is coming and it will be the weakest members of our society will be the ones that will take the hardest hit. Throughout the entire campaign, the Republicans have been very careful to avoid that subject. The fault of this lies directly at the feet of big-government Entitlements. At this point, I know Romney can handle this but he will be vilified and I think will be pressured to appease the Socialists. We are doomed. The Socialists want our society to crash, thinking that they will be in a position to control the people and pick up the pieces. How many times have you heard Obama say that he needs to be reelected because he hasn’t finished doing what he wants to do to change our system? That statement scares the $-hit out of me. This is the tell-tale sign of anarchy, changing what you have to what you want. I like what we have as imperfect as it is.

I shouldn’t be so concerned with Romney’s phony hurricane rally but with Obama’s phony façade. Sorry about blowing up. I’m p***ed at something else right now.

What desired 'ban on ammo'?

THe only people who have gained from that are ammunition manufacturers, who can't keep up with demand.

I'm sure the ammo companies are quick to help crush all these wild rumours when they pop up. :P

'Crush' the wild rumors... don't you mean 'shoot' down the rumors? -ba-dum-tsh-

Yeah. He'll even use campaign funds to buy products to fill a truck and give to hurricane victims.

Geez, what a horrible, horrible man.

I'm not sure of the specifics, but it sounds like Romney used his own money to donate food and other items of need to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Was it foolish of him to then stage it as if people brought these items to his fund raiser for the victims? Absolutely. That said, it's hard to berate him for this act from a standpoint of thinking he didn't in one way or another provide some sense of help or relief to victims of the hurricane.

I'm not even a Romney (or Obama) supporter, but you should better pick and choose which issues you are going to attack a candidate for doing. Helping Hurricane Sandy victims isn't really the best thing to come down upon Obama or Romney for.

That is the issue at all. Buying it and using it as a facade is the issue. Why not just make the donation and be done with it?

Meh...I have saved my more critical comments on this for a more outspoken forum....I disagree with what he did, but it is what it is. If help can be garnered and delivered, so be it. I disagree with anyone using tragedy as a springboard.

The Making Of Romney's Storm Relief Event

So what do you think of Bloomberg and Obama already giving victory speeches for the way FEMA has handled the situation? They're publicly patting themselves on the back and things are no where close to better yet. How vein, shallow and wrong...

well yeah but the red cross says that's NOT what they want or need. They need money. Goods get in the way or are wrong

Really? What a pathetic statement. Who gives a crap what Red Cross wants? They'll get money. What's wrong with personal charity? Nobody needs that water and whatever else he bought and brought? How can you say any if that is wrong? Something is better than nothing. What do you think about the victory speeches I mention above? I know, you agree.

I hope one day you're dying of thirst and mitt Romney shows up and gives everybody a bottle of water but you. I bet you also think it was ok for the unions to demand the Alabama utility crews either joined the union or go home. In times of dire need the union remains a self centered greedy pig.
