jugoso Posted November 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 1, 2012 The recent West Coast earthquake appears to have shut off the water at the popular hot springs in Haida Gwaii's national park, local tourism operators have confirmed. After Saturday's 7.7 magnitude earthquake Parks Canada workers went to check the springs and found they had run dry, according to Barb Rowsell, who owns Anvil Cove Charters. "Three people went down to check it out, and sure enough there is no hot water and the rocks are dry and cold," said Rowsell, who has been ferrying visitors to Hotspring Island for years. The popular natural attraction in Gwaii Haanas National Park has been a major tourist draw for decades, but apparently they will warm up cold and weary travellers no more. http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/11/01/bc-hotspring-haida-gwaii.html What a shame!! glorybebe Posted November 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 1, 2012 Well, when the crust moves...it makes me wonder what Van Island looked like and experienced for the springs to have developed there in the first place
Taun Posted November 1, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 1, 2012 How long before they pipe in hot water to keep the 'cash cow' alive?...

Professor Buzzkill Posted November 1, 2012 #5 Share Posted November 1, 2012 And the pressure builds and builds and builds and builds until POP! Exactly. It could be in one month or 100 years, but it will POP one day
Ashotep Posted November 1, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 1, 2012 I wonder if they have checked for the spring popping through elsewhere. If the water is still there and its course hasn't been changed it will blow one of these days if it hasn't found another exit.
