Beany Posted November 12, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2012 I ran across this word while reading a review of Oliver Sacks' new book, Hallucinations. The Wiki definition: Heautoscopy is a term used in psychiatry and neurology for the reduplicative hallucination of "seeing one's own body at a distance".[1]It can occur as a symptom in schizophrenia[2] and epilepsy. Heautoscopy is considered as one possible explanation for thedoppelgänger phenomena. Here's a link to a brief video of Sacks talking about it: http://www.webofstories.com/play/53912. Sacks believes hallucinations are medical symptoms, not always malign, and are pretty common, including phantom limbs, OBE, PTSD, hauntings, and ecstatic & religions halluncinations.
