Seriously. He acts as if we are out here thinking we are all Rambo but that's not really what this is all about.

We don't use Genghis Khan methods like the Russians. Take a good look at Chechnya where the starting position for the Russians was the same as the one in 'Stan.

Im not quite sure what you're trying to say. Is it that the Taliban will not be back in power after we leave because we havent acted like the Soviets?

no they would not. when soviets came to Afghan in 79, mujaheddins has flint lock\blackpowder rifles for the most part. they would not get there if it wasn't for us\pak help.

Regardless of how they got the weapons, the fact is that they had weapons to resist with.

Hell, if they had modern AKs instead of flintlocks, they probably wouldnt have needed outside intervention to arm them and put them in a better position to resist....

What will you do during the 30-40 minutes (or longer) that it takes the police to get there?

The response time for a 911 call is 5 to 20 minutes. The response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

No,that the brutal methods of the Soviets would have led to results as desired by them, as demonstrated in Chechnya. AS far as the Taliban being back, that is just a question of time.

ak's they got from soviets, they killed plenty, and took their guns\rpgs\ammo...etc.

but it took usa, and pak to get them weapons that they could not get from Russians, stinger missiles, without them, soviets mi24, were destroying them. and mujahedins could not do much about armored birds. after they got stingers, Russians didn't use mi 24's the same way they used before. and it did make difference. but amount of stingers was very limited, so they almost didn't use it against transports mi8\6, that were not armored, guns they had could take care of those birds, but stingers worked against mi24.

they also used stingers against transport planes, they could not do anything against those with ak, or rpgs. and that too made huge difference.

Good point. I think ultimately everyone believes what they want to believe. One comment from another site:

Crime is pegged to the economy. As the economy softens, expect crime rates to start rising.

Many more children are killed or injured in the home by firearm accidents, than are home invaders.

Me: But then in repudiation to the above:

People posting that lame "they'll take your gun from you" line are victims just waiting for a crime to happen. They don't know what they are talking about. The CDC web site has information that shows the number of children killed by firearms accidents is less than 40 a year, less than drown in bathtubs. The number of times a burglar or home invader is thwarted is many times that number. People who make those types of statements are ignorant regarding the facts and simply spout the anti-gun crowd party line.

Just shows how many 'experts' are out there. For me, I believe in "trust in God, and keep your powder (as in rifle powder, duh) dry"
