Still Waters Posted November 22, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2012 More than 170 years after it was last spotted, a rare plant has been found again in Canterbury. Earlier this year, Wildland Consultants ecologist Melissa Hutchison was doing a survey for the Christchurch City Council in Okains Bay when she spotted a "classical Dr Seuss tree". "I didn't realise what it was at the time. I knew I hadn't seen it before." A few days later, botanist Hugh Wilson confirmed it was a Pittosporum obcordatum, an extremely rare specimen. http://www.stuff.co....-that-I-can-see
Mnemonix Posted November 22, 2012 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2012 So that's where Dr Seuss got his inspiration?
sarah_444 Posted November 23, 2012 #3 Share Posted November 23, 2012 Cool! Very interesting looking trees. I'm guessing the Dr. Suess trees mentioned are the ones in The Lorax, right? They don't look like they would make very fine "Thneeds" though, which is a good thing.
