Is it time for a new Constitution?

Is it possible that we are on the brink of a new, "modern" Constitution? Could you imagine a constitution that kept the best of the old and got rid of the horse and buggy language of slavery. Can you imagine a constitution written in today's hi tech style. Appoint a "Constitutional committee" and we should have a draft to vote on in a few weeks.

Obama now feels a sense of destiny. He wants a constitution that increases the term of office for president. He wants to have the power to raise the debt ceiling when "he" wants to and not be bothered with the congress approving it.

It will take only one dominoe to fall to make our entire system collapse, and Obama will be there to pick up the pieces, declare a state of emergency and federalize the entire economy. The new constitution will ensure fairness and freedom for all.

When do we begin the discussion about a new constitution? Maybe when we have 50% umployment and 150 million on food stamps?

This is why we have amendments, so we can change the Constitution. I understand that it's bloody hard to pass a new amendment but that was the point, it was supposed to be difficult but not impossible to change the Constitution. I hear the term 'living document' a lot.

I would not go as far as saying that a new constitution is needed, but it has to be amended to the circumstances of the time. Like a prohibition to make debt except in case of extreme disaster and then only if it is paid back within two legislation periods. A more defined personal freedom and some more direct democratic participation could be in order.

It does not really matter. When the constitution gets in the way politicans just ignore it. Same thing happens to any piece of paper.

The only Americans that I have read of that want to get rid of the US Constitution in the USA are the ones who have petitioned to have their states leave break off and no longer be part of the USA. Despite all of the good and positive things that the current US president has achieved, they are convinced from listening to Republican propaganda media such as FOX and the Rush radio show that he has done nothing but bad things for the nation.

The largest problem the USA is facing in terms of having a functioning government today is the militant fascist movement that has taken over the Republican party through the use of media. They even shamed and disgraced the aged former Republican leaders, one brought in sitting in a wheelchair on the senate floor, by voting down the US disabilities treaty that was the legacy of former president George Bush and senator Robert Dole because the Noe-fascist Republicans declared it a UN plot to by nations like North Korea and Iran to destroy home schooling in the USA.

Yes the USA has really big, really serious problem in its government, but the problem is not the current president.

What a bunch of BS!! Obama has never said, nor even hinted, that this is the case, neither does the Domecratic Party Neither does any Govt have the power to make these decisions.

Just what is it you do not like about Obama? Is it his colour (look around you ), is it his Politics?? (Compare with G.W. Bush), is it because he won the National Vote and you were not included in the voters that re-elected him?

This is just a trolling post to allow you to vent your hatred of your President (YES, he is YOUR President), who has enormous standing in the rest of the World. A chance to rebuild the status of the USA Internationally, to build alliances both Political and commercial - you need seriously, to grow up some.

Wow, it only took one extreme liberal to launch into a racist rant. We should put this in the new constitution, everybody that has an opinion against Obama is a racist!!

You sure do spew some vile hatred for no apparent reason except to pound your own chest and declare all conservatives as stupid. It is attitudes like yours that point to total human meltdowns based on your own idea of reality.

I asked a question. When is it time to consider a new constitution? This country is on the verge of collapse, Obama is president, he will be responsible for putting humpty dumpty back together again. If you want to change america, change the constitution. Obama will be in the perfect position to be the "hero" and King for the next few decades.

Yes, I've noticed these morons tend to shriek "RACIST" at anyone who criticises obama. The obligatory "well do you like bush?" is always comical too since obama has extended everything bush was hated for.

But I don't really see the need for a new constitution, it's just ignored anyway.

Never. As mentioned, amendments are the way to enact changes. We don't need a reformed constitution. We do need people in charge of playing by its rules to play by its rules. Quit twisting it, ignoring it and "interpreting" things it doesn't say.

Man I have never been able to figure you out. You're so over the top with pro-Obama idealism that I can't tell if you're serious or sarcastic. WHAT IS IT MAN?!?! According to this post you appear to be a conservative with an applaudable handling of the twitchy intolerant liberal above but then in your last paragraph and apparently the point of the op you seem to yearn for such insane things as you have many times before.

Paranoia about a fictional Obama dictatorship aside I don't see a new Constitution being done up any time soon. Reforms and a rework perhaps, but not a brand new one. The current version is doing ok for the most part. Besides too many Americans see the Constitution as an almost holy document that any hint of doing away with it, even to come up with a new version, would be political suicide.

Why get a new one if you don´t bother to pay attention to the existing one?

We didn't need a new constitution to pass anti trust legislation or the glass-steagall act, (or to demolish them) ... but , our constitution is still a useable framework?

And , as has been noted, contains means of amendment .

Obama rips U.S. Constitution

http://www.wnd.com/2008/10/79225/

The federal government will spend more than $668 billion on anti-poverty programs this year, an increase of 41 percent or more than $193 billion since President Barack Obama took office. State and local government expenditures will amount to another $284 billion, bringing the total to nearly $1 trillion — far more than the $685 billion spent on defense.”

There is nothing wrong with the constitution. We just need to get rid of people who refuse to follow it.

How many times have we been down this road to fiscal cliff? It is a joke. We can cry wolf all we want...but one day the dollar will be worth toilet paper and we will be on the brink of civil war...a new constitution must be put in place to prevent total chaos and mass crime. There will be no rich and no poor, just everyone in the same twilight zone.

This is a case where a new constitution would be put into place. How much will our debt be when we do crash? 17 Billion? 25 Billion? Does it matter when the dollar becomes a mere memory?

Once the collapse begins, Obama will be ready to pick his panel to write a new "socially just and wealth equallity" constitution. A few names may just re-appear...Van Jones, Anita Dunn, Bill Aeyers, chelsea Clinton and Justin Beber.

At some point the president will be compelled to act for the safety and welfare of this country. If Romney had been our leader, the new constitution would look much different. Romney would have fixed the problem and saved our system. Obama has been brought up and schooled in how to properly and legally overthrow the "man" as a community organizer. His whole frame of mind is to "take down the man", "wipe out the establishment", "take power back from the old rich white men". Never let a serious crisis go to waste. Obama used the housing collapse to jam healthcare down our throats. If we go over the cliff, this will be his dream. A huge catastrophy where he can come in and "clean" it up with love, equality and social justice. We will need a new constitution for Obama to finish his grand plan to wipe out the 2 party system and claim victory for the bottom 99% of us. Every job is govt regulated and every product is govt priced. Good bye capitalism, hello socialism.

What else do you expect? It's always the same straw man argument. It's impossible to escape it. Reasoning doesn't matter.

The Constitution is just fine the way it is written. It just needs to be enforced.

We have no checks or balances when a corrupt group of men want to legislate around it. They answer to their own "higher power"...lobbyist.

Even the top shelf of the military...who are supposed to be sworn to protect it...are in the pocket of the Plutocracy...writing a "New" constitution is not going to fix anything.
