Velikovsky Posted October 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2004 The Guardian Letters from US troops to Michael Moore Civilian contractors are fleecing taxpayers; US troops don't have proper equipment; and supposedly liberated Iraqis hate them. After the release of Fahrenheit 9/11, Michael Moore received a flood of letters and emails from disillusioned and angry American soldiers serving in Iraq. Here, in an exclusive extract from his new book, we print a selection

Celumnaz Posted October 6, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2004 Coming from Michael Moore, I'm not convinced he didn't just make it up and write them himself for publicity. Or, get someone to write them... maybe offered his underwear. And if it really really is true, cause there's is a super small % that's going Kerry, and Kerry himself was a military hater while he was in the military, so I'm sure there's a few of those too. Every organization will have it's idiots and crackpots and crooked men, military too.

It is sad that a grown man, Mikey Moore, encourages this sort of trash-talk.
Me_Again Posted October 6, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2004 You know during Vietnam the majority of the soldiers supported their efforts. Now if you ask Vietnam veterans, they have changed their minds. Some have disabilities, agent orange problems, mental illnesses, etc. the government does a good job at hooping up the hupla for war. Then afterwards, when it is to late they realize that it really didn't solve much I heard a soldier from Iraq commenting that his troop (or whatever its called) didn't have basic batteries that they needed. In my opinion, war solves nothing. Americas problem solving skills need to be improved War is an 'old' lame way to do this. If Bush really wants to help our troops, he should pay them more money for doing his dirty work And make sure they have batteries when needed. Or maybe its not Bushs' job

Celumnaz Posted October 6, 2004 #9 Share Posted October 6, 2004 (edited) But it was Kerry, and Edwards, that voted against the funding for things like... batteries... I'll agree though, war sucks. I would rather they not have: Attacked the embassy in Tehran in 1979 allowing Carter to show terrorists our lack of resolve. Attacked the embassy in Beirut in 1983 Attacked Marine Corps HQ in Beirut 6 months later Attacked the embassy in Kuwait in 1983 Attacked the embassy in Beirut again in 1984 Attacked the restaurant in Madrid where our soldiers were in 1985 Attacked the Air Force base in Rhein-Main that August 59 days after that took over Achille Lauro and threw the wheelchair bound US citizen off the boat Then TWA Flight 840 in April of 1986 Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie Scotland in 1988 Killed 2 CIA agents outside CIA HQ in Langley, Virginia in 1993 Feb of 1993 the WTC was attacked US militarty complex in Riyadh, Soudi Arabia attacked in 1995 Attacked US embassy compound in Dhahran Saudi Arabia in June 1996. Attacked 2 embassies in Kenya and Tanzania Attacked USS Cole Oct. 12, 2000 And the more recent 9/11... We've been the target of terrorism since at least 1979. Osama didn't do all of them, the last one sure but focusing on him imo is stupid when there's more going on than just him. He did it because for the past 25 years we've been weak on terrorism and he probably figured it'd cause more of the same. Keep buring our heads in the sand and save the whales and rain forests and whatnot. --scene playing in my head--- "I now pronounce you, Mr. Gay and Mr. Gay as united, you may kis..." "BOOM! Allah Akbar!!" "You cannot cut timber here! This is the habitat of the spotted yellow lizar..." "BOOM! Allah Akbar!!" Priorities are all messed up. Edit: Had to add "rather not" up there. Fluffybunny Posted October 6, 2004 #10 Share Posted October 6, 2004 Well, I can tell you first hand. Iraq sucks. War sucks. Getting shot at sucks. Being away from home, friends and family sucks. Michael Moore sucks too. Sometimes unfortunately you have to do sucky things because they are the right thing to do. Afghanistan is something that we need to deal with. Now that we have blundered our way into Iraq we have to stay until the job is as done as we can get it. I still have a lot of good friends that are in Iraq right now, several of them are unit commanders and are in charge of lots of people. I talk to and email them on a regular basis. The truth is that morale is low amongst much of the troops. That doesn't mean that they aren't going to continue to do the job to the best of their abilities; it just means that they are not gung-ho about it. I don't know a single person over there that hasn't lost a friend or someone in their unit due to death or severe injury. That wears down morale real quick.
