Full list of Obamacare tax hikes

Almost everyone I know uses a HSA, and those are in like 5 of those taxes. Also many of the people I know have medical conditions that easily exceed that 7.5% threshhold for a tax credit, and now it will be 10%.

It must be different for different companies. In places I've worked almost no one used an HSA. Maybe Startravelor will jump in. I suspect the "plans" offered that are "legal" are still being ironed out. Will we still have HSAs?

The 10% thing will hurt those that use it. A small number of people.

17 - this is an INCENTIVE to purchase health care insurance. You won't feel it if you do what most other Americans already do. Buy insurance.

So the people that make one dollar more, so they can't be on government assistance, will still have to fork out more than they can afford to pay either way.

Yeah, those two are going to make things real interesting. With #17, it would be cheaper to take the penalty tax, then let Obamacare pick up the rest. Right now, I can't afford Obamacare without going broke. And with #18, how much you want to bet that employers with more than 50 employees will be setting their hours to part time. The new norm will be that everyone that can still find work will have at least two part-time jobs.

You know what else was interesting I didn't know? The fines employers pay on uninsured employees are going to be allowed as write-offs anymore. It's counted toward gross income. That's bs. Insurance costs or fines, either one is a cost of doing business which should always be deductible. A giant ass-raping is all this bill is.

Almost everyone I know uses a HSA, and those are in like 5 of those taxes. Also many of the people I know have medical conditions that easily exceed that 7.5% threshhold for a tax credit, and now it will be 10%. Which is very likely to add up to several thousand dollars difference, and hundreds of dollars in tax rebate. Also I use Blueshield, so that is probably going up too.

Maybe those on unemployment, welfare, food stamps and social security will not be affected? But, many in the great masses of Tax Paying Citizens are going to feel the pinch of these taxes.

What's new there? The rich can afford it, the broke don't have to. Who get's the raw deal here? Oh, but Ojagoff is all about the middle class...

17 - this is an INCENTIVE to purchase health care insurance. You won't feel it if you do what most other Americans already do. Buy insurance.

18 - see answer above but for businesses.

Yep, nothing gets me motivated like getting several thousand dollar fines punishable by imprisonment to get me going in the morning. Especially ones I neither asked for nor deserved. Just wait till you hear the wrath from all the people who have no idea what's coming which I presume will be half the country. I'd argue most Americans don't buy insurance on their own so much as they do because they get it cheaply through their jobs. If it weren't for that I guarantee far less people would buy it. Up until now, I had to spend money to live the way I feel like living. Now, I and everybody over 26 has to spend money just for the simple act of being alive. What's American about that? And why do you want to hurt businesses? You crow and crow about lack of jobs yet jump for joy every time the gov impedes job growth. You can't blame every lost job on Baine. Their reach is far less than that of the governments.

And what was that comment about me predicting the future and being wrong? The election? I never made any assurances about that. I only hoped he'd have lost. I never said for sure he would.

You've got good taste in music, bud...and I agree. It seems like those of us that have busted our butts all of our lives, without any help, are going to be jacked.

So what do you think the odds are that there will be millions and millions of people who take this fine and shove it up obamas ass? I mean don't pay it. They can't arrest that many people. That would accomplish two things: 1. Just make it the IRS' job completely non efficient and chaotic 2. Ruin the whole 'noble' idea behind this crap

I really don't want to pay this if for nothing else than principle.

I don't know what the outcome will be. I know everyone thinks anyone that owns their own little business is doing great, but they've never done it. In good times, we have people wanting specialty items built at whatever cost. In bad times we have people that just want things fixed to pass whatever inspection has to be passed....for as little cost as possible. We won't do anything substandard, but people are letting things go to the point that it's unsafe...even on apartment complexes and condoes.

I know you probably understand what I'm saying without going into much more detail. :tu: Our saving grace, is the fact that we have an "in" with the artist community, because of my husband's welding talent. Oddly enough, our city is big into sculpture and has money allocated to it, especially through private funds... so a lot of artists are asking for his help in building them. Most people aren't that fortunate.

Rant over...

1) it would be several thousand only if you made between 250,000 or more. Are you seriously telling me that you make that kind of money and are whining about healthcare premiums?

2) it is not punishable by imprisonment. this was discussed ad naseum on UM during the year it was a bill. It's law now.

in fact, it's been investigated that few will be this stupid.

Sorry. It doesn't work like that. So if you think that, you're going to be disappointed. And probably bankrupt. Buy insurance.

You are so notoriously clueless. Yes, I did sign up for Obamacare. I don’t want to give my company an excuse to fire me because they have to pay a penalty tax. Not yet anyway. Not until I find out more of what my rights are. This first time around is to give it the benefit of the doubt. But as I’ve stated before, my deductible is going up by 400%, it’s at $4000 now. I only spend about half that for healthcare in a regular year and much of that is because we can acquire the drugs my wife needs for a lot less. Now, we won’t be able to. My yearly out of pocket limit is now $12,000. So in other words, where before I got a benefit having insurance, I no longer do and I have to pay for that privilege. I can no longer afford lab work. It has gone up from $50 a pop to almost $1000. So, I’ll stop going to the doctor to check my cholesterol and such. I would go for lab work about twice a year and my wife would go several times. I don’t know what we’re going to do if she has to go, dig into savings? If I get ill, I will go bankrupted. I don’t think I’m alone. This Obamacare is the biggest flop to ever be perpetrated on the American people.

are you like 10? There is no such thing as Obamacare that you can "sign up" for. Talk about clueless. First of all, the exchanges are not set up. The rules are not defined. You would sign up in 2014 for an insurance plan by an INSURANCE company. There is no government option. Obama care is not healthcare. It's a framework for healthinsurance. Sign up for Obamacare. What a joke. whatever you signed up for as "obamacare" is fraudulent by some insurance company.

I'll probably be in the $1500 range for fines on top of the many thousands I pay in personal taxes already.

Then what's the downside to not paying? Bad credit? Because I thought after enough time, if you didn't pay your taxes you can end up in jail.

I'd imagine the IRS would just garnish your taxes. That's just a guess though.

Then I'll do what I did when i was younger and wouldn't balance my check book. I'll close my bank accounts and just cash my checks at the grocery store service desk and buy money orders for my bills. I'll miss online bill pay but that cash will be stashed somewhere ungarnishable if I were to take to shove it up your ass Obama path.

Just out of curiosity, why did you do something like all that when you were younger?

Are you ignorant or just stupid?

Oh, ok, both… Don’t be a maroon.

First of all, the exchanges are not set up. The rules are not defined.

Not everything is. Doh! But do you think that on 31 Dec 2013 that all insurance will be the way it has been and then magically on 1 Jan 2014, it’s Obamacare? You are as dumb as you look. Companies are transitioning now. Our HR dept has pointed out that we are only half way to full compliance. I can’t wait for the next open enrollment. I might as well turn in the keys to the house.

You would sign up in 2014 for an insurance plan by an INSURANCE company.

Actually signing up for insurance usually takes place during what is called open enrollment at the end of the year. This year is no different. You should come up out of the basement and ask your parents what that is and how much they pay for you.

There is no government option. Obama care is not healthcare.

I thought you said that there is no Obamacare?! It controls healthcare. It forces us to get insurance and it dictates what coverage it provides. For all practical purposes, that’s the government option. It’s designed to eventually become a single payer system.

It's a framework for healthinsurance.

Yes, it is a framework. The framework of a Socialist society. The dream of a Socialist’s agenda.

Sign up for Obamacare. What a joke. whatever you signed up for as "obamacare" is fraudulent by some insurance company.

Nope. It’s legit. You just refuse to accept the truth. What will be interesting is that sometime by 2014, your attitude will change. I’m curious as to whether you will double down or begin to see the light? I suspect you will just double down. You’re just too dependent on the koolaid you take intravenously.

Aren't you retired Ninja? How long since you've been in the Trenches? Every company offers HSA now. The employee gets to pay medical bills with before tax money and the the company has little extra costs. WIn, win.

I do not mean to say that these Obamacare taxes (And even Obama called it Obamacare) are horrendous, but that they WILL affect eveyone who uses regular types of insurance. People on the public forms of insurance are going to be hit a lot less.

Full List of Obamacare Tax Hikes

Obamacare law contains 20 new or higher taxes on American families and small businesses

Lumping these all together is misleading, as most of them aren't intended to be revenue-raisers, they're policy changes. That's the case with some of the items about changing the conditions under which tax exempt status is awarded or, in some cases, rolling it back.

The "excise tax on charitable hospitals" is really just a provision that requires non-profit hospitals to meet certain criteria if they want to keep non-profit status. The same is true of Blue Cross needing to spend a certain percentage of premium revenue on actual care if it wants to continue to enjoy favored tax status.

The individual and employer mandates aren't designed to bring in money, they're intended to maintain stability in the marketplace.

Some aren't even tax changes at all: listing the value of health benefits on the W-2 doesn't change their tax status (nor is it a "preamble" to doing so), it lets the employee know the value of their health benefits, which is a fact currently shielded from most employees.

Now there are revenue-raisers, of course. That's your Medicare and your investment income taxes on high-earners, the taxes on device manufacturers and insurers, and the excise tax on cadillac insurance plans (which also has a policy role to play). That's why the spending the is paid for.

It must be different for different companies. In places I've worked almost no one used an HSA. Maybe Startravelor will jump in. I suspect the "plans" offered that are "legal" are still being ironed out. Will we still have HSAs?

Yes, we'll still have HSAs. Probably more of them, actually.

What bounce a bank account or two when I was 18 or so? Yea so what.

Was a guy that worked the power house outage circuit that was anti-taxes and anti-government. So he refused to pay taxes for 7 years or so. Towards the end he would only work at a place a few weeks before moving on. Ended with a chase with the sheriff's dept through the powerhouse. He ended up getting a tax lawyer, settling and having his wages garnished to back pay the taxes. I was just asking to see if you had a similiar interesting backstory.

You are so notoriously clueless. Yes, I did sign up for Obamacare. I don't want to give my company an excuse to fire me because they have to pay a penalty tax.

You mean you signed up for the insurance your company is offering; "Obamacare" is not some new form of insurance. And it doesn't matter whether you enroll in your company's insurance plan or decline it, all they have to do is offer it and there's no penalty for them (which doesn't start until 2014 anyway).

But as I've stated before, my deductible is going up by 400%, it's at $4000 now.

Higher deductibles are one of the right's favorite solutions to rising health costs. I'm sure they'd be delighted to hear this.

So, I'll stop going to the doctor to check my cholesterol and such.

If you're over 35 (or under 35 and at risk for coronary heart disease), cholesterol checks are covered by your insurance plan without co-pays, deductibles, or cost-sharing.

Evidence-based preventive services: The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, an independent panel of scientific experts, ranks preventive services based on the strength of the scientific evidence documenting their benefits. Preventive services with a “grade” of A or B, like breast and colon cancer screenings, screening for vitamin deficiencies during pregnancy, screenings for diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure, and tobacco cessation counseling will be covered under these rules.

Nope. Not nearly that exciting. In fact, not one interesting thing behind it at all.

Not yet. I'm working more than full time. And yes I know most every company offers HSA. It's just that unless forced into it, few take it. In my experience.

Why did you think it would be different?

You should come up out of the basement and ask your parents what that is and how much they pay for you.

I don't have a basement, my parents have passed decades ago. I'm 53.

It controls healthcare. It forces us to get insurance and it dictates what coverage it provides. For all practical purposes, that's the government option. It's designed to eventually become a single payer system.

It is not designed to become a single payer system. That's ridiculous. And no it's not a government option. A government option would be a government insurance company. And Congress removed that provision.

Yes, it is a framework. The framework of a Socialist society. The dream of a Socialist's agenda.

YEA!! You act as if socialism is a bad thing.

What will be interesting is that sometime by 2014, your attitude will change.

That's possible. However, for now my companies open enrollment insurance plans have NOT changed. While health care costs have skyrocketed over the past 20 years. The people demanded these changes.
