It appears the DSM 5 changes classifications for numerous "conditions" ,including nervousness,to disorders that will all need meds.

The nail biting thing was just the precursor .

Lots of luck to anyone who agrees to taking meds for any of it .

Transgender issue guidelines ,are included in this btw .

If you are pre op,expect to be bombarded with nonsense ,worse than ever before .

Hoarding, binge eating, and grief lasting more than two months after the death of a loved one,are also now diseases that need meds .

If you collect cabbage patch dolls, you're a hoarder btw .

I'm still pretty sad about my grandmother dying 18 years ago. I hear there's a pill for that. Awesome.

As far as hoarding, it's reasonable to say that living like that is a symptom of something but the hoarding itself wouldn't be the disease.

I read how they've classified it,as hoarding has been considered a mental issue from the beginning.

They're calling it ,"inability to get rid of items",which can be mutated into anything ,including simple packrat and collecting stuff.

If you look at the LA times article ,one psychiatric said ,in 45 years of practice ,he's never been so disgusted with his profession .

This is all to dispense more drugs,to people who are normal .

Of course it is..always has been. The pharmaceutical industry has a huge influence over the medical field.

Of course there is also another angle too..a way to "manage" and control the masses. Can't have people feeling anything these days. No happiness, no anger, no sadness...just bland detachment. This way a person can be coerced to do anything, even the most reprehensible and not feel anything either way.

But if people buy into this and never question, never research and never think for themselves and say an emphatic "NO!" to their doctors then this idiocy will continue.

sadly, too many people do not question their doctors,or the meds they are out on .

I guess to other side is that many ppl who hoard or whatever that's new on the list really want a medical acknowledgement for what they have. Ppl like to define things, so they can set up a more uniforme treatment. So they can get the feeling of being taken seriously instead of be ridiculed because "it's not in the book".

Why is somebody trying to convince society that emotions are the same as mental disorders?

It wouldn't be far-fetched to think somebody is pushing an agenda. Pharmaceuticals?

Emotions come from the heart, the spirit. Mental disorders obviously come from the mind.

Next they'll get into thought diagnosis. I realize emotions produce thought, but just thoughts themselves will be proclaimed mental disorders.

Is there no room in the world for eccentricity these days?

There are degrees of everything. People with any of these things to a degree where there is a chronic disability to function "in the real world" need help.
