Memnon was Black

Big Bad Voodoo

Recommended Posts

This marvelous bust is one of the very few documents of an actual black person from Greek and Roman antiquity. Memnon was a pupil and protégé of the well-known Athenian entrepreneur and philosopher Herodes Atticus. It was found more than a century ago in one of several villas owned by Herodes, and it adds a face to the name of the person recorded by Philostratus in his Lives of the Sophists, an account of the famous philosophers of the second century.

"Memnon" in reference to the Ethiopian ally of the Trojans in Homer's Iliad

I understand bringing to light the actual race of a historical person, I want the true facts baby, but what I'll never understand are the people who freak out when a historical figure could be another race. Like Jesus... or Santa.

Memnon was Black -No great revelation since Memnon was an Ethiopian king, it's kind of obvious isn't it?

*shrugs*

"Spartans tonight we eat dinner dine in hell."

It is impossible to visit the English side of Youtube and look at any videos about AE without being confronted by a wall of obscurantism, outright lies and foul obscenities. This subject is so divisive that it is impossible for it to be debated in any polite way. A pity this subject comes here....
