Today I learned that people can be evil, devious, backstabbing, filthy creatures that shouldn't be trusted.

i learned today that if a retailer in the UK cons you out of money you don't inform the Police or UK Trading Standards Authority (a Government office). You are required to report the crime to the Citizens Advice Bureau, which is a UK charity that gives folks free advice on just about everything.

Yep, you must report a consumer crime to a charity that's staffed by mostly volunteers. Now is that not shocking?

Today I learned that home made french onion soup is not worth the time and effort ....6 large onions chopped, eyes streaming, mascara dripping off my chin, 35 minutes of continuous stirring to ensure no sticking .....and I ended up with less than a litre of sickly sweet soup which does not taste great

I learned that an Abilene marshal, Tom Bear River Smith, served only about four months before he was brutally murdered (God rest his soul). Wild Bill Hickock took his place. Two marshals hired before Tom quit the same day they were hired, it was that bad.

Today I learned that I have 'long lungs'. Whatever the hell that is.

Sorry to hear that. Here is some info about it. They call it Hyperexpanded Lungs

If you learned this by your doctor, and he diagnosed you with it, it's quite irresponsible of him not to enlighten you on the condition.

Hyperinflated lungs can be caused by obstructions in the passages that deliver air to your lung tissue. Air gets trapped within the lung and causes it to overinflate. Hyperinflation can also occur when the air sacs in your lungs become less elastic, which interferes with the expulsion of air from your lungs.

One of the most common causes of hyperinflated lungs is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) — a disorder that includes emphysema. Lung problems such as asthma and cystic fibrosis can also cause hyperinflation.

In some cases, lungs may appear hyperinflated on X-rays for reasons unrelated to lung function. If you aren't experiencing shortness of breath, there's probably nothing to worry about. But the only way to know whether you have something that causes truly hyperinflated lungs is to do a lung function test. If your lung function is abnormal, you should see a lung specialist to identify and treat the underlying problem.

Hyperexpanded lungs, or long lungs, is a condition in which the lungs have overinflated, causing them to grow beyond their usual size. This condition can cause respiratory problems, especially when exhaling. A person with hyperexpanded lungs cannot fully exhale, which leaves air trapped inside the lungs.

Hyperexpanded lungs occur when the air sacs of the lungs break down and become enlarged. This affects the lungs' ability to take in new air, making it difficult to breathe, particularly when you exhale. This condition is most commonly associated with lung problems such as emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, also known as COPD. Breathing exercises and cardiovascular exercise can improve your breathing function and should be performed most days of a week to reduce difficulties related to hyperexpanded lungs.

Exercise Breathing

Practicing modified breathing during exercise is important for people with hyperexpanded lungs because it enables you to exercise more effectively and for longer periods of time. For best results, practice this breathing exercise on a daily basis and when you exercise for best results. Purse your lips together and inhale for two seconds. Exhale for four seconds, keeping the lips pursed. Continue breathing in this manner for one to two minutes. Pursing the lips warms and aids moisture to the air before it enters the body, making it more easily filtered by the lungs. Exhaling for a longer period than you inhale helps to compensate for the slower exhalation that those with COPD experience.

Thank you, Elljay. :)

No, it was the radiologist who said to me today as I was having a chest x-ray, "Do you know you have Long Lungs?" When I smiled and asked what it was, she looked rather surprised and replied, "Nothing to worry about, some people have longer lungs, that's all". I never quizzed her but I'll be quizzing my doctor when I go for the results of my x-ray.

p.s. I don't have shortness of breath or a cough or anything like that.

Ok, that sounds promising since shortness of breath was a clear symptom. Maybe he meant that you ha somewhat longer lungs genetically than the average person. I bet your Doc will fill you in on that.

Good luck.

I learned today that Jesus has been looking for me. This made me feel suspicious of the pilgrim who told me this cos I talk to Jesus most days. He doesn't answer but He's a good listener, and I'm sure if He was looking for me He'd have said summat.

Today I learned that a ukulele has a body, a neck and head but no arms and legs. I also learned that the same chord being struck over and over again on said ukulele does not necessarily make a 'tune' despite a backing track.

And I learned that the little song which went ...'we're playing F, oh yes, we're playing F, oh yes' repetitively makes me want to stick knitting needles in my ears.

I'm going straight to hell aren't I?
