Big Bad Voodoo Posted February 6, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2013 These findings hint that Neanderthals did not coexist with modern humans as long as previously suggested, investigators added. http://www.livescience.com/26831-neanderthals-died-earlier.html
Bavarian Raven Posted February 6, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2013 I dont know about this. all the other studies point out between 28-33 thousand years ago. Maybe it was 'this' study's methods and not the other study's methods that were flawed.

Maybe it was 'this' study's methods and not the other study's methods that were flawed. You've got to be careful to separate the hack reporting from the actual study. It's only the reporter that talks of Neanderthals in general. The study's authors, on the other hand, are contending that the dates for Neanderthal remains in Iberia may be later based on the large difference after they retested following cleansing. One of the quoted researchers, Thomas Higham, also did a retest on the Vindija remains (in Croatia) using the same cleansing technique, which yielded a c. 32kya date (versus the earlier 28/29kya date for the remains), so he knows that Neanderthals were still around later, just not necessarily in Iberia.
