AsteroidX Posted February 9, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2013 Any geologist types out there that can explain why we have a 8.0 in Easter Island with so many aftershocks then later we get a 6.9 in Columbia. Would these be connected in a geologic sense such as tectonic cause and effect or considered unrelated ? Just trying to get a better understanding of plate tectonics without going to school for it. I consider 7 days to be a short time in geologic time and it seems to me for tectonic action somewhere theres gonna be an opposite and "equal" reaction. http://www.toledoblade.com/World/2013/02/09/Deep-magnitude-6-9-earthquake-in-Colombia-no-injuries-reported.html
Simbi Laveau Posted February 9, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2013 I find the ring fascinating . I would assume plates, but how can plates up in Alaska ,be connected to plates in say Indonesia.
AsteroidX Posted February 9, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted February 9, 2013 I use this app and it shows you the plates as well as earthquakes and other things going on around the world. With its delays in dropping old events sometimes you can see the reactions...Its where the idea came from. Besdies its a really neat app. http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index2.php
