Most of it is. That is why its important to check and double check the information,... from a skeptical point of view that is.

Its pretty clear from the audio tape that the austronaut says ' We Still have the Alien Spacecraft Under Felon'

VFR not Felon

It wasn't a public radio, the person picked up the frequency.

Yeah, exactly, publicly available. Obviously it was not on your normal FM radio frequencies, but if they broadcast this on a frequency readily available to any amateur radio enthusiast without encrypting it then yes, they were broadcasting it publicly for anyone who has a ham radio to pick up.

Sighs wearily. The transmission in question was NOT, I repeat NOT coming directly from the Shuttle.

It was a *claimed* RE-broadcast of what was supposedly captured directly from the Shuttle. David Ratsch, who was the one who heard the *claimed* RE-broadcast, *thought* it was genuinely from the shuttle. Checks of the audio were inconclusive - NASA at NO TIME verifed this transmission - contrary to the OP's misinformation. Indeed, perusal of the 'real' original tapes revealed that no such conversation took place.

Yes, NASA could just SAY that and doctor the tapes, but then it begs the question - given that people with the required equipment aimed at the shuttle WERE able to intercept the transmissions, why didn't someone who was doing that (ie NOT David Ratsch) corroborate this transmission? The answer is simple - it was someone near Ratsch with a ham radio playing a prank, and Ratsch was the only one who picked up the hoaxed transmission.

What seals the deal is that Ratsch picked up a second almost identical transmission during another Shuttle mission - SAME voice. Yet the astronauts on the Shuttle that time were different! Ratsch himself is clearly convinced he was taken in by a hoax - refer the email I posted earlier.

It would take an incredibly dedicated believer with tunnel-vision and a complete inability (or lack of desire) to research this properly, to not see that this is a complete and utter HOAX.

Great. haven't got time for you.

Perhaps you could find the time to track down the original NASA release that says the transmission was a joke by an astronaut.

This is STS-29 right? I suspect so because Wikipedia says:

STS-29 was a NASA Space Shuttle mission, during which Space Shuttle Discovery inserted a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) into Earth's orbit. It was the third shuttle mission following the Challenger disaster of 1986, and launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 13 March 1989.

The flight crew consisted of:

Commander Michael L. Coats

Second spaceflight Pilot John E. Blaha

First spaceflight Mission Specialist 1 Robert C. Springer

First spaceflight Mission Specialist 2 James F. Buchli

Third spaceflight Mission Specialist 3 James P. Bagian

First spaceflight

Who's voice is that supposed to be?

As Chrlz pointed out already, Donald Ratsch, the man who "broke the story" also followed up his spectacular story with the admission that he himself, thinks this is a hoax.

sts-29 march 1989

Date: Thu, 14 Mar 1996 18:51:37 -0800

From: sts48@ix.netcom.com (Donald Ratsch)

Subject: Re: NASA WAV file

To: bdzeiler@students.wisc.edu (Brian Zeiler)

Brian, yes I have the full story on that. The details was carried on

the July 1989 issue of the MUFON Journal. Briefly I recorded some of

the radio broadcast via my audio scanner from the space shuttle

Discovery through WA3NAN, the club station of the Goddard Amateur Radio

Club at Greenbelt, Md, transmitting on 147.450 MHZ. It is a

retransmission from the NASA Select original. I heard what I thought

was one of the male astronauts saying, "Houston, Discovery, we still

have the alien spacecraft under observance". Well I was pretty excited

and got in touch with Walt Andrus of MUFON and Vince Dipietro (Mars

Face Fame) who is employed at Goddard Space Flight Center who I later

handed over the tape to have a voice print analysis performed to

compare the target voice to the astronauts' voices that were aboard

during that mission. The result of the analysis showed that a few

positive hits on Astronaut Bagian (the physician on board) but not

enough hits to say he was the one who said the target words. So the

results were inconclusive. Later a check showed there was no target

voice on the original NASA Select audio.

About a year after that, I was again monitoring the audio from another

NASA mission via my scanner and I heard that voice again, saying something

similar to the target voice a year earlier. However on this mission, all the

astronauts were different compared to the other one. This led me to conclude

that unfortunately, the target voice was a hoax probably from an amateur

radio operator. Jim Oberg emailed me some time ago and asked me about

that case and I told him what I just told you.

..

Bolding mine. If the claimant had given up on the claim, what is there to chase down now?

Jim is already onto this one as we can seem heck Jim, seeing you all over the telly of late :D That is awesome.

Sadly, it's worse than ignorance, which can be cured by providing information. In these cases, it's false belief, which must first be dislodged before accurate information can replace it.

And we all know how difficult that can be......

I have no problem with ignorance... its the willful ignorance I cant stand.

The believers are complaining that skeptics are "close minded".... I see lots of that on their side aswell. Believers that refuses to even consider a mundane explanation to their favorite case.

I think they're pretty much confirming what most people already suspected, but nevertheless, it is encouraging to have it confirmed.

I've seen that videobefore. Now really YOU know astronauts have seen & reported sightings.I can't even imagine whats going oaround the space station. You also know that info is confidential, a matter of national security and all that. It's to protect our feeble minds from breaking if presented with the awful truth- dare I say it..there heeerree!

I'd much rather strenghthen your admittedly feeble mind with sound reasoning and research skills, and these topics are excellent practice fields for such empowerment. Are you ready to start?

For some of these guys, dwelling in ignorance is more exciting......And I get that.... A world (universe) filled with all sorts of Aliens, ghosts, and people with paranormal powers.

Who wouldnt take that over the "boring" reality?? :tsu:

Wow, really? You feel ignoring the Astronauts actual words, making some up, and telling people the made up stuff is the real truth, is the way to roll?

That's the level best you can do??

Seriously. Your sentiments are very childish.

Strange... How some people will rather "fight to the death" to keep their favorite fantasy intact than actually learn something.

I was about to say the same, we know a few of them in the forum, who to this day, even having been proven wrong time and time again by different people, cling to their beliefs (for lack of better word) rather than to admit, that they might even be wrong a tiny bit.
