Catholic Church in Scotland 'knew of 20

The BBC has seen evidence that bishops in the Catholic Church in Scotland knew of 20 allegations of child sex abuse by priests between 1985 and 1995.

Another alleged victim of abuse says his life has been ruined.

An academic who compiled a report for the church on how to deal with abuse says not enough was done.

The Catholic Church in Scotland insists its child protection procedures have improved dramatically since the 1990s and allegations of abuse now are rare.

When will charges be brought against this disgusting organisation? Is it not a crime to know of a crime yet not bring it to light? I know this is the case with murder.

They should be disbanded or at least expelled from modern societies. Horrendous. It just makes you wonder about how many similar cases there have been from all the centuries between last century and the birth of the Church; how much have they covered up?

To be fair this is the response from the RCC..

The case you [sic] have highlighted was handled in complete accordance with the guidelines.

As soon as the complaint was reported, the police were informed, the priest concerned was removed from his parish and after they investigated the police passed a report to the fiscal, who took no further action.

The Church sent its file to the Vatican in July last year and now awaits a decision.

Well according to stories circulating, they did not report alleged abuses to the police and did not punish the priests in any way.

If it is true that these crimes have not been reported to the Police then that's terrible. I think the abuse victims in the 80's were not reported but according to the RCC response, in the mid 1990's they set up be better protection policies. I don't think the RCC can afford to make any mistakes in dealing with 'abuse victims' and how they deal with the Priests who perpetrate these crimes. As a Catholic it has certainly saddened and sickened me that so many have suffered at the hands of Priests.
