Kowalski Posted June 22, 2013 #401 Share Posted June 22, 2013 The Congress of the US, and other groups, are constantly passing resolutions about "human rights" in Vietnam, mostly out of ignorance, while such a huge human rights violation persists in the States in the form of failure of the government to protect the citizens from gun violence. I would certainly oppose an alliance of other nations going into the States to force a change in American gun attitudes, but I see nothing wrong with trying to change their minds. Whoa! It was one thing, to have a negative view of guns as you do, and I respect your decision, not to own one. But, when you start telling me what I can and can't own, and to top it off you live in another country, well, that's just down right intolerant and bigoted.
Leah G. Posted June 22, 2013 #402 Share Posted June 22, 2013 You didn't have a south? My word but you are misinformed. There was Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia. Even then Maryland had lots of slaveholders. I'm sorry, you are mistaken. I think you are referring to the Civil war which is completely different than the Revolutionary war, the war of Independence from England. I was born and raised here and I am not misinformed... The 2nd amendment was created in 1791, we won our freedom in 1783. The civil war was in 1861-1865 and that was the war on slavery. Yes, Georgia was one of the original 13 colonies. We did have slavery back then but so did other cultures or counties. It's not exclusively American.

Does England get razzed for being a slave owning, class system culture for centuries? If so I never hear about it. For thousands of years many many cultures held slaves. If anything WE made it morally unacceptable for the world once and for all and nobody ever thanks US for that not to mention we as the United States, not colonies, are still a young country and our history of slavery is relatively short even if you include the start of the colonies but still that was an English culture at that time. So the Europeans are the truest and biggest human rights offenders in the scope of history especially compared to US but they seemingly get a pass. But that's nothing I care to throw in the faces of our euro friends here because it's a silly argument to throw at people today who frankly had nothing to do with such things but the citizens of the USA get treated as if its still a way of life or that is at least longed for. Hey guns were around to keep slaves in line so that means if you like guns you like slavery. I've seen such arguments and even a thread started on that premise not too long ago. By that logic the cotton industry today has got to be the most racist industry on the planet so think about that ladies when you're rubbing nail polish off your hands with an acetone soaked cotton ball. I think it should be obvious, to some anyway... example a 8stone woman trapped miles from anywhere comes across someone 15stone, mean as a bad smell who aims to rape and kill her, she has a loaded gun....yep you can bet your false teeth shes going to use it to save her ass and rightly so.
Leah G. Posted June 22, 2013 #409 Share Posted June 22, 2013 There are many places in the US that don't have police coverage because they are too far out in the country or like in Detroit, it's too over run with criminals and under funded so to protect yourself you need a gun. Where I live, it takes at the very least 20 minutes for police or an ambulance to get to you. Criminals always have guns, if you don't have one, you lose. So where I live, guns save lives.

Burglary Suspect Charged After Being Shot By Homeowner MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A man has been charged after being shot by a homeowner during an alleged attempted burglary on Thursday morning. Murfreesboro Police charged 19-year-old Gage W. Dalling with one count of aggravated criminal trespass and two counts of burglary. The homeowner, Milton Heath, told police he was getting ready for his morning walk around 6:30 a.m. Thursday when he spotted a man trying to break into his home on W. Clark Boulevard. Heath grabbed his .22-caliber revolver and confronted the man, later identified as Dalling. Parkerson said Heath told him to keep his hands up, but when the man went for his pocket, Heath shot him. Dalling, who parked his car in the driveway next door, was rushed to Vanderbilt Univeristy Medical Center with minor injuries. Detectives continue to investigate. Taken from: http://www.newschann...rfreesboro-home SUN CITY, AZ - The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has taken a man into custody who they believe is suspected of a home invasion in Sun City. According to Officer Christopher Hegstrom, MCSO received a call around 2:00 a.m. on Friday morning about a home invasion taking place near Peoria and 111th Avenues. MCSO says the suspect, 33-year-old Joshua Barnes, was armed when he entered the home. But he picked the wrong home to mess with. The homeowner, Dave Sobley is an armed Maricopa County Sheriff posse member. "I met him in the hallway after I heard the yelling coming from my wife's room. He shoved me backwards and caused me to knock things off the nick-nack shelf. At that point that's when he told me to get on the floor or he said, "I'll kill ya,"" said Sobley. When Barnes walked away, Sobley went back to his bedroom for a loaded revolver. Sobley's wife Audrey heard one single gun shot. "I did not know who was shot. I did not, and my heart stopped. My heart stopped until I heard his voice," said Audrey Sobley. The Sobley's were escorted out of their house by police and began the hunt for the intruder. Later that morning, Brian Smalley, a serviceman at a nearby golf course, spotted Barnes near his truck. "He looked distraught and he was looking like he was in a hurry to get out of there ... that's why I thought he was going to take something out of the truck because he was walking real fast," said Smalley. A homeowner nearby called 911 and deputies swooped in to get their man. Air15 flew over the scene and showed officials loading Barnes into an ambulance near 111th Avenue and Mountain View Road. Officials say Barnes was only wearing blue jeans and a blonde wig when he allegedly broke into the Sun City home. Neighbors say they're not shocked the homeowner was armed because in their neighborhood everyone is armed and ready. "And the ones that don't like guns, we have a lot of widowed women who live by themselves, we take care of them, check on them all the time," said neighbor Walter Ready Read more: http://www.abc15.com...y#ixzz2WygP818C Edited June 22, 2013 by Kowalski

Beckys_Mom Posted June 22, 2013 #415 Share Posted June 22, 2013 (edited) I'm sure it does. If faced with that type of situation, to protect myself and my family, I could pull the trigger, no problem, but it would definitely bother me....I hate violence. I thought about it... I have once had to stand strong to defend my daughter and husband...A drunk attacked my husband once and he was hurting others around him along with some girl.....When I saw my child ( she was just 3 years old at the time ) cry in fear calling out - "Please don't hurt my daddy".. I saw red.. I didn't grab a gun ( Obviously ) but I grabbed the nearest object I could find and clobbered the attacker over the head and wanted to hurt him badly...I split his head clean open, and he was trailed away by cops... The cops told me I was ok as I was only defending my child and husband... I recall going home after it was over, and I sat in shock, thinking what the heck happened?...... I normally would NOT get into anything like that, but I saw my child cry with fear of the attacker and I acted out instantly and was determined to protect them...All I could see was danger and something came over me to act fast...... In the end, I did manage to save my hubby and kid from any further harm... Becky ( Now 7 yrs old ) does not recall it, thank goodness .. But it sticks in my head, because I never would have thought I would be in such a situation... So I guess I would act fast enough if I ever face any danger again... When I am clam like I am now, I couldn't possibly get like that, I think it takes something dangerous to make us act and act fast... And what is killing people in Vietnam... Oh look traffic. http://thediplomat.c...-silent-killer/ Helmet laws starting in 2007? Barbarians!!! Poor drunk driving laws? Barbarians!!! 15000+ traffic deaths?? (out of 87 million that is 17 per 10,000) (Gun death in US is about 9 per 10,000) YOUR KILLING PEOPLE FRANK!! Fix it. I think Frank needs to go check out the barbarism in his own country before pointing fingers. A civilized society would have better traffic laws... it is "common sense", right? And yes I am very happy to criticize the UK for its colonial misdeeds - I am an equal opportunities critic Br Cornelius The British were brutal with slaves during the 1600's ... From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland's population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade. Families were ripped apart as the British did not allow Irish dads to take their wives and children with them across the Atlantic. This led to a helpless population of homeless women and children. Britain's solution was to auction them off as well. http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-irish-slave-trade-the-forgotten-white-slaves/31076 Edited June 23, 2013 by Beckys_Mom
