This Map Shows America’s Most Armed Counties. #1 Might Surprise You.

The most heavily armed county in the US is (drum roll, please) – Faribanks North Star Borough, Alaska. Second place goes to Tooele County, Utah and third is Nez Perce County, Arizona. City-Data.com compiled the list (We should note there’s no source posted for the city-data list) and Reddit user Ramsesses_Deux created the map.

Texas, one of the most gun friendly states in America, is surprisingly not one of the top 10 most armed counties. The Lone Star State’s first entry is Harris County at no. 73.

Lol, you see the county marked in West Virginia? I live there! And it's actually not too dangerous of a place to live, aside from the state government's incompetency.

Ex boyfriend beaks in, starts stabbing mother. 11 year old daughter pops home twice, saves moms life.

The guys name was "Leonard Demon Henry"? Middle name "DEMON"? That's messed up.

She probably saved her mom's life.

A detailed account of a woman shooting her stalker.

"Should have fired a warning shot..." some people are complete morons.

Good for her, too bad it had to come to that, but she did the right thing.

It's also good that she is hammering the critics with logic for suggesting that she should've just ticked him off further.

I was going to post this in the NBC's (ridiculous) Home Invasion Tips thread for Psyche, but I think that thread is getting way off topic, so I'll post it here, hoping Psyche will see it. I'm not very good at knowing how trustworthy googled sites are, sometimes I think sites you agree with are trustworthy, if you don't agree with them, they're not, lol.

Anyway, if you read the comments at the end, that offers more insight and viewpoints also, hopefully.

Here it is:

http://johnrlott.blo...australias.html

What I find interesting, is this is from John Lott's website, and iirc, he originally (with the other author, I forget his name) started out to prove that gun control works!

Eta: From one of the comments in the link:

further-more, there have been continuing claims in the media that police in various Australian states have been 'covering up' violent crime stats; a couple of years ago, an Assitant Commissioner of Police in Victoria resigned over just such a claim.....viz: Sir Ken Jones;

overall, Howard's gun laws have been an unmitigated disaster with many Aussies now under siege in their own homes and terrorised both in public and in private by heavily armed, psychopathic thugs.....as per the predictions of Prfssr Lott and others over the years.

Police say a trio of thugs broke into a family’s home in Harris County, Texas, early Friday morning - but only two escaped alive.

Eight people, seven family members and one employee of the family’s construction business, were inside the house when the mother’s adult son reportedly heard the unmistakable noises of someone breaking into the home. He retrieved his firearm and confronted the suspects, according to police.

"Please don’t hurt the girls," he reportedly told the three intruders.

Moments later, he opened fire. The son shot and killed one of the suspects, and the remaining two ran out of the home.

Visitors do not need to worry about their right to bear arms when they travel to the Grand Canyon State. Arizona gun laws are among the most accommodating for gun owners in the nation.

All law-abiding citizens, who can legally own or possess a gun, are allowed to carry a concealed handgun without a permit or license of any kind. This applies to both residents of the state and those just visiting.

I have a few stories about friends whose lives were cut short by gun violence, but I guess this isn't the place for those stories. I myself was almost a victim, as a child, because my mom, a paranoic schizophrenic, found the hunting rifle my dad kept, and had made the decision to kill me. A fortuitous visit from my aunt saved my life. After that, my dad made sure there were no guns in the house.

I am glad you weren't hurt in that. That's terrible. But that's not a gun problem, that's a paranoid schizophrenic problem.

I agree except her dad couldn't take the paranoid schizophrenic problem out of the house. So in her own case I think she has a point. Her dad made sure, and it makes him a good dad.

I know of two woman who tried to kill their kids with knives. Perhaps if they had had guns they may have been more successful, but the point still remains that it is the people who are dangerous, and the weapon is just a force multiplier. Banning guns doesn't help people who have mental disease.

I do agree that if you don't have a percieved need for a gun, then really you have better options, like getting a dog, or locks, or maybe just teaching/talking to your kids. Dogs prevent many more burglaries then guns, IMHO. Woman who go running with a dog are probably a lot safer then one out running with a gun.

Putting my personal story aside, I had friends who were shot and murdered while going about their daily lives, while I don't know anyone who saved a life because they were armed and in the right place at the right time. As DieChecker said, there are safer alternatives than guns. I don't want to take away anyone's right to arm themselves, but I wish as a nation we have the conscience to work together to find some ways to reduce deaths due to gun violence. I don't think those kinds of deaths would be entirely eliminated, but certainly reducing them is a goal worth pursuing.
