Banks are opened already? No? Why then they are counting chickens before they hatch?

I think you took my statement further then I did. I also said it was mentioned to me by a Cyprus Pat.. So I can only speak as to what 1 person mentioned.

Just one example:

South Korea has exported the first shipment of 300 kilograms of gold collected in a public campaign to help the country out of its economic crisis.
(link)

Thats the commitment, kudos Koreans.

We had similar campaign in 1990, not that it brought magic results, still, it showed unity of the nation in difficult times.

Cypriots just stuck to their money: "Oh boy, I have 100000, and I'll starve to death, if someone will take 10000/5000" (looks much, but how many honest and hard working people had 100000+ on their accounts?). And up to 20000 Euros wouldn't be subjected to the levy (with last proposal)...

Well rumours are going mad here this evening, one is that the goverment has a new plan also know as plan b. it looks like they will take the 10bn from eu and get some of the money from deposit accounts but at a lower % and I hope only over 100k and e shortfall would be supplied by the Russians.

From Cyprus within the past hour.

Apparently Germany has said the Banks may not reopen until a bailout deal is agreed.

http://www.bbc.co.uk...europe-21855163

in that news piece it also says - Germany has said banks in Cyprus may never reopen if a bailout is not agreed.

if your going on holiday to Cyprus the hoteliers are asking tourists to not pay by credit cards or bank transfers. but cash. the way things are going they'll only be excepting gold nuggets and bars. :gun:

I know one thing, they aren't going to sleep too well with a layer of gold bars under their mattresses.

That will be different, most places frown at cash here.

They trully handled this in the stupidest way possible.

"Crisis time..we need to prevent a huge banking collapse, what can we do? Oh i know, let's scare the entire population into taking away all their money from the banks"

What the hell?

Im curious to see the after effects thursday and friday. I don't think the population will reason "it was just a scare, lets all leave our money on the banks" ... i think it will be more along the lines off "they'll find another way to screw us over, best to take as much money from our account as we can."

I could be wrong, but they only enlarged the problem and the crisis with that.

And these folks are not dumb. They know full well this will make a insane bank run across the EU. Especialy in Italy Spain, ect ect. This is the begining of the intentional collapse

Are you freakin kidding me?????????????????????????????????????

This is bank robbery plan and simple. SK must have a bunch of idiots, but at least they had a choice. These people who thought thier money was in safe hands are now having thier money stolen, and if they dont go along, they are threatening them with taking everything they have. All the while paying thier top guys HUGE bonuses. The bankers should be arrested, and given 25 to life. Same as any bank robber. It is not the peoples fault that the banks are so corupted that they now have to resort to stealing money to survive. All the while knowing that this is going to create a wave that will ripple across the entire world. This is nothing short of pure evil.

Well, looks like the Russian Mafia is going to buy Cyprus and clear their dept. Either way the people of Cyprus loose out.

But some still wonder why the UK want out of Europe. One corrupt government stealing from us is enough thanks :P

Banks are closed indefinately right now. How many would be screwed if all the banks here just closed for over a week and indefinately? All we'd have left is plastic.

Ah, getting richer (bigger salaries, higher profits) wasn't a problem exploiting the same system that led to this mess, no questions were asked... I bet that through the years they made more than one time levy proposed now.

You know, If you like sledding, be so kind to drag your sled uphill by yourself.

That's taking it a bit too far for me. There's no collapse planned, only a strengthening.

How they thought that pushing to such an extreme was a good idea, escapes me.

But as far as i've read i haven't seen that the EU wanted Cyprus to touch the money of people with less than 100 000 euroos on their account. THey meant to zone in on all the foreign capital. Cyprus' banking system lives of foreign capital but needs to learn a way to function on its own.

So was it Cyprus that orchestrated this panic to get some mercy in the end? I don't know. Maybe I just haven't read it all yet.

And i think tha'ts the answer to it all, they just don;t know. Nobody knows what to do because there isn't a handbook for this. It's just rolling with the punches and there will always be a new problem where everyone can freak out over. Last year Greece, now this. Whatever. Fast forward 5 years and we'll be in a better place.

There's no reason to do it anywhere else.

Plans have already been established for other places.

The situation in Cyprus is extremely dire, which made the proposal possible. It's not that easy to try it anywhere else.

Really? Our government, for example, recently "stopped" two banks when suspicious activity was spotted... And our government is not least corrupt, by far...

[...]

Socalism at its greatist.

How is that socialism? Its choosing between bad, worse, and worst. And proposed levy not being worst. But, hey, if Cyprus will find other better way(s), kudos to them.

Cyprus has a lot of natural gas and the Russians would love to delay its coming to market.

It's not the Russians,Turkey are more of an issue.

I know about the Turks; I was just making a snide comment on why the Russians might want to bribe the Cypriots out of their troubles.
