Artist sleeps in a glass box at NY museum

Tilda Swinton's latest performance is putting even her to sleep.

The Academy Award-winning actress is sleeping in a fitted glass box at New York's Museum of Modern Art this month, fully exposing herself to the public during perhaps one of the most intimate human moments.

Museum goers are able to peer in on the Moonrise Kingdom star while standing just feet from her padded glass chamber as she appears to lightly turn in slumber.

Ah to be a famous-enough actress that sleeping in a museum infrequently as part of an art exhibit is a feasible expenditure of one's time........

I hope everyone bringing their children there are thoroughly explaining to them that this is NOT art and is a complete waste of time, space and money.

This is beyond ridiculous.

This is "art"?

If she was naked that might be different.

Not trying to "porn" this out, just sayin.

What is art, exactly? A painting? A sculpture? A photograph?

Art can be any of those things, and more, but, in my opinion, art has to take effort on the part of the artist.

Going to sleep in a box takes no effort and means nothing more than whatever going to sleep in your bed does every night.

I would also add that an artist *usually* has some kind of talent or skill that they use to communicate some sort of emotion or concept. Falling asleep - though difficult for some people due to sleep disorders - does not (at least in my book) qualify as a talent, nor does it communicate a damn thing other than the fact that our culture is so celebrity obsessed that at least a few nutter-butters out there think this is cool enough that the museum allowed it.

All this proves is that if you are rich and connected you can pretty much do whatever you want. Like taking a nap in a museum and getting to call it art.
