Ashotep Posted March 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 26, 2013 The US House of Representatives quietly passed a last-minute addition to the Agricultural Appropriations Bill for 2013 last week - including a provision protecting genetically modified seeds from litigation in the face of health risks. 'Monsanto Protection Act' slips silently through US Congress Hope the president veto's this.
Popular Post Sir Wearer of Hats Posted March 26, 2013 Popular Post #2 Share Posted March 26, 2013 Well that's just peachy. Sadly, it's not surprising in the slightest. Obama won't veto it because he road to the Whitehouse on the Monsanto Buck.
Jackofalltrades Posted March 26, 2013 #3 Share Posted March 26, 2013 Seem's to me they know, or have a good idea that genetically modified seeds have a health risk to them, why else would they pass such a thing

Ashotep Posted March 26, 2013 Author #5 Share Posted March 26, 2013 Big business gets their moneys worth again. As the Washington Times points out, the provision’s success is viewed by many as a victory by companies like Syngenta Corp, Cargill, Monsanto and affiliated PACs that have donated $7.5 million to members of Congress since 2009, and $372,000 to members of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Almagest Posted March 27, 2013 #10 Share Posted March 27, 2013 Blows my mind that anybody can call Obama a socialist when he is so clearly a corporate suck up. There's no way he'll veto this.
Guest Posted March 27, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 27, 2013 There are moves to introduce bills at state level compelling GMO labelleling. The one is California was narrowly defeated but there are new ones in Washington state and other states. If its passes in any state it will compell the food companies to label GMO on a national level. Hope at least one state legislature has the guts to do the right thing. Ashotep Posted March 27, 2013 Author #13 Share Posted March 27, 2013 There's a lot of Monsanto stooges up there if they are taking their money. Companies don't give you money then don't expect payback. I don't think companies should be allowed to do this. Things need to change so our politicians aren't indebted to them.
lightly Posted March 27, 2013 #14 Share Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) Preemptive laws now huh? * how can you pass a law to protect someone from causing possible future harm which would otherwise be Legally prosecutable? ¿ ? .. Arrest them all as accessories !* lol Edited March 27, 2013 by lightly
AsteroidX Posted March 27, 2013 #15 Share Posted March 27, 2013 In California GMO labeling Bill Monsanto spent 14million to defeat it. Opposition only raised 4million. It passed 54% to 46%. That was a decent blow to GMO labeling for other states. Oregon has one currently in the legislative body as well. But it is getting -0- attention.

preacherman76 Posted March 29, 2013 #21 Share Posted March 29, 2013 Would an 0bama supporter please explain to me how you could still support this man? Please explain to me how this isnt down right treason against the people? Or will you just close your eyes to this, and keep chanting hope and change?
questionmark Posted March 29, 2013 #22 Share Posted March 29, 2013 Ah, what a little campaign aid (already given and promised for the future) does.... What is much more shocking with this news: If they insists on having this legislation it is because they are aware of potential harm... else they would divide the money among their shareholders and pass out a few bonuses. Would an 0bama supporter please explain to me how you could still support this man? Please explain to me how this isnt down right treason against the people? Or will you just close your eyes to this, and keep chanting hope and change? I did not know that Obama held a majority in Congress, how did that happen?
