It was actually just a security guard at MIT, not a police officer.... not to say that that lessens the severity of the crime, though...

reddit has gone down when they were reporting the story

We had to briefly remove the emergency.mit.edu link due to traffic issues, (it is used by the MIT community when emergencies occur).

The news here in nyc,is saying it was a police officer . They're saying this is absolutely connected to the bombing .

They were MIT students, and now one is dead.

The whole thing expanded into a shoot out in Watertown

Apparently the Boston Police Commissioner said that himself, on twitter. A Police Commissioner on twitter? Doesn't seem right somehow.

Agreed...and perhaps you can explain how someone adding new information to a topic under discussion is not "correcting" or pointing out "weak links"... its actually discussion, which is what this board is about...

I suspect you two had little more then crossed wires as to why the links were posted. It appears you've both cleared that issue up now though so we can move back to the topic at hand.

FBI on scene . MIT police officer is dead, and a transit cop has been critically injured .

I am hearing one suspect was originally in custody . How we went from in custody to dead,is anyone's guess.

Unexploded devices are on the scene ,and are being disarmed .

Suspect number two ,with the white cap ,is on the loose. Suspect number one, with the dark cap,is dead.

FBI has shown other images of the two, face close ups .

The fugitive suspect was seen at a seven eleven earlier yesterday,in a grey hoodie .

As far as I can tell, they were not MIT students, but don't quote me. Details of where they found them ,are fuzzy ,but it started in Cambridge, and ended in Watertown mass .

Some residents had bullets come into their homes, and they heard exploding bombs .

20 block perimeter lock down .

I made the other thread, because the two arguing just did nothing for the topic.

Should have used my title ;)

Suspect number one was taken into custody .how he ended up deceased,is still unknown , apparently suspect number two car jacked an SUV in Cambridge ,police gave chase. Explosive devices were throw at cops from the car . Some detonated, some did not .

It did seem someone was arrested, footage and photos showed arrest of a live suspect: video of one person with hands on head being rushed by two officers, photos of one person nude in custody. Unsure how either but black hat suspect one is reported to be down.

Not going to post anything else on this thread due to the bickering unless it is cleaned up.

SUV found abandoned .

Call initially came in as an altercation at a 7-11.

It came down as an MIT police officer down ,police responded ,and this unfolded .

The suspects were behind the SUV .Gun fight with police ,including tossed explosives ensued.

Suspect number one was shot in this exchange .It was then that suspect number two took the car .chase to Watertown unfolded .

This business of one having a black hat and one a white hat seems a little curious. Rather like they went out of their way to make it easy to identify them.

If you see two people standing together dressed similarly your attention actuslly goes towards them not away.

different caps break the illusion that they're together.

well Ive had my nose in various pages so may have lost track of whats been posted, but here you go

(mods are good! btw) :tu:

BOSTON—A late-night police chase and shootout has ended with one marathon bombing suspect dead and another on the run here, Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis said early Friday morning. One police officer was killed and a transit officer seriously wounded during the pursuit.

Federal agents swarmed neighboring Watertown after local police were involved in a car chase and shootout with the men identified Thursday by the FBI as Suspect 1 and Suspect 2. During the pursuit, officers could be heard on police radio traffic describing the men as having grenades and other explosives.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a robbery was reported at a 7-Eleven in Cambridge, police officials said. An MIT officer responding to the call was shot and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suspects fled in a stolen Mercedes-Benz. Watertown Police spotted car and engaged in gunfire with the suspects.

Suspect 1 was shot by police and later died, but the second fled on foot, leading to a tense manhunt that is still underway at this hour.

"We believe this to be a terrorist," Davis told reporters at a hastily arranged press conference in Watertown. "We believe this to be a man who has come here to kill people. We need to get him into custody."

A transit officer was seriously wounded during the exchange of gunfire, officials said.

The FBI has yet to publicly confirm a connection between the events in Watertown and the twin explosions that killed 3 people and injured 170 others at the Boston Marathon on Monday. But according to Boston Police, the suspect who remained at large was the "one in the white hat" seen in the photos released by the bureau on Thursday.

In a radio alert sent issued to fellow officers, the suspect was described as a "white male with dark complexion or a Middle Eastern male with thick curly hair wearing a charcoal gray hooded sweatshirt ... possibly with an assault rifle and explosives." Police in Watertown, Newton, Brighton and Cambridge were put on high alert as the suspect was said to be armed with a "long gun."

Kudos to the moderation!

It seems the person arrested live was not a suspect after all.

White hat suspect is going to have a hard time escaping from the area now.

The worst outcome is that this turns from a manhunt to a hostage situation.

Many in the area are on vacation so he could be holed up in an empty house but he could have made his way into someone's home and is holding them hostage.

Let us hope white hat is in a ditch instead but it is doubtful he escapes. Best outcome is a live capture so he can spill the info. Fingers crossed mates.

Well this has caused full media black out of cispa being on its way to being passed.

So black cap white cap does have its merits .Who knows .

Is like to think ,for once, our govt wasn't involved . I think this was legit...

They're saying they're Chechnyan and brothers. One died at the hospital after being taken into custody .

It does seem a little odd. Perhaps the different colors were to make them easier for another conspirator to keep them in sight? If a third individual was responsible to detonate the bombs, he/she would need to make sure those who placed them were clear of the scene - just a thought.
