Dog mourns the loss of her beaver friend

We know that dogs are man's best friend, but could it be that they're best friends with other animals too?

Here, Bella the dog is dealing with the loss of her good friend Beavis, a beaver.

It might seem like an unusual partnership but apparently when he was alive, the best-buddies were virtually inseparable.

I think dogs know the true value of friendship better than most humans. Poor dog, I hope she becomes happier soon. Very sad to see that.

That looks like a BIG beaver. Unless that is a really young pup???

Yes, this looks like the real deal. The whimpering is a sure sign of distress, together with the facial expression, points to an emotion of sadness. Darwin wrote about this a long time ago, it shouldn't surprise anyone.

Then there's more confusing videos like this one recently at the Huffington Post. What looks like sadness could just be asthma or reverse sneezing. It's uncertain how well the dog knew it's handlers grandmother, so I think it's hard to say if it's mourning.
