The world's largest camel herd - Australia

Australia is famous for its wildlife - kangaroos, koalas and numerous species of snakes and spiders - but it is also home to the world's largest herd of camels. There are about 750,000 roaming wild in the outback and they cause a host of problems.

From the article; "Humans have introduced dozens of species into Australia - including wild horses, pigs, goats, dogs, cats, rabbits and foxes - and these have now become a major problem for the ecosystem."

They left out Cane Toads, another invasive species

"Native to Central and South America, Cane toads were introduced to Australia from Hawaii in June 1935 by the Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations in an attempt to control the native cane beetle"

Just more examples of people, blinded by economic rewards, not thinking things through.

But when the internal combustion engine came along and they were no longer needed, several thousand were released into the wild.

Well what did the humans expect? did they expect them to just die out there?

Sounds like they need a camel round up and sell more of them to Saudi Arabia.

australia is now the only place in the world where dromedary camels are found in the wild, so from a conservation point of view, it wasn't such a bad idea.

introducing the rabbit on the other hand.....

they tried that in australia freet, because rabbits have done more damage to the country than anything else, but after it wiped them out, the ones who were left are immune, and they're making a BIG comeback, with rabbits breeding like rabbits n'all.....
