''too attractive to work''

Personally, I'm struck by how cruel some of the responses are: She's too old, too ugly, too skinny etc...sour grapes anyone?

What's really going on is that all reasonably attractive women under the age of 40 are generally 'hit on' by men and often sniped at by other women. Sounds more to me like she was brought up as a bit of a spoiled debutante and simply can't fit into the real world. Since she comes from a wealthy family her unemployment isn't costing anyone (other than her parents) so why everyone is so angry eludes me.

Honestly, I'm far more angry about folks who play the system and live off of my tax dollars.

Miss Fernee’s parents – Catherine, 65, and Alan, 70 – inherited money from Laura’s grandfather, and now pay £2,000 a month in rent and bills for her flat in Notting Hill, London, as well as picking up her credit card payments.

====================================================================================

Plus the money she is getting paid for the photo shoot. She doesn`t need to work!

She is not ugly, but to say that she was could not work because of her looks is pretty delusional, if she felt she was being harassed she could have taken those concerned to the tribunal.

Personally I do not think this was the case at all, I think she decided to jack it in and start a modelling career, but knowing that she was no spring chicken it would be unlikely she would get a legit agency to take her, she decided to approach it another way to get the attention she craved, by going to the press with a story like this and posing for photos for them.

Not quite vogue luv, but you got what you always wanted...you face in the papers.

Be fair to the girl... she IS pretty, not "double - take" pretty or stunning, just pretty.

The real point here is her inability (IMO) to socially interract with work colleagues in such a way as to de-fuse any unwanted "come - on". These are skills that we all learn in the workplace (even me... just once  ). Unwanted gifts in the workplace? just leave a fake dog - do on top of it and the person will get the message. Being asked for a date? .. her (imaginary) 8 foot tall, psycho boyfriend would end that!!

She is actually just lazy and spoiled, who knows how she managed 8+ years at Uni with the lecherous Lecturers and Jocks there!!

Hi Lilly

As a woman you probably dont know what men find attractive. As a man I can say she isnt good looking at all. I'm baffled as to why she thinks she is?

Now dont get me wrong, I do think good looking women do get harassed by men and other women are mean to them. But that is 100% beyond all doubt not her case. I think if we got to see her attitude towards others we'd discover people like winding her up and being mean to her because no one likes her.

Maybe her parents have feed her 'you're beautiful' lies all her life. Whatever the cause she is deluded. Its like watching X-Factor when you get someone who is really bad at singing who thinks their the next star.

Maybe everybody else in her town is really ugly.

And while comparing herself to them shes mistaking herself for being good looking?

For a fact her parents have spoiled her and still are today.

Your x factor example is a good one, this is her.

You don't find her to be attractive, but not all men have the same preferences. I can assure you, somewhere there are men who would find her to be attractive. There are men who like thin women, fat women, tall women, short women...all kinds of women. I have no doubt that at some point in her life some man has indeed 'hit on her'. That this has kept her from working is what is I find rather suspect.

I noticed she doesn't mention her habit of disrobing every time someone wishes her a good morning!

Give her a couple of years and she will become "plastisized" with the money she has and end up looking like an old Clint Eastwood leather boot.Beauty is but skin-deep, has she got more than a single cell brain. Its PERSONALITY that counts.

in a world of vanity & self-obsession, one woman's claim that she's 'too pretty to work' may just be one step too far.

citing the fact that men are 'harrassing her because of her beauty' and that 'women hate her and are consumed by jealousy', she's decided to stop working altogether and let her rich parents fund her lifestyle to the tune of £5000 per month, including £1000 on 'socialising'.

is this really the way you want to raise your children, to be so self-centred that they consider themselves too good-looking to be a functioning, productive member of society, and you just let them parasite themselves to you like the world's vainest remora fish?

'too good-looking for work'?

yeah, I get that all the time.....

Saying you're too good looking for work is a great way to get attention, don't you think? And of course it doesn't matter at all whether or not she really meant it, it only matters that she said it. So she's too sexy for her job. Maybe we should give her the local porn director's phone number and she can find equitable employment there, something more fitting to her uhh...her comeliness.

Now I'm going to say something nationalistic, politically incorrect, and gross: I know. I know how politically correct it is to bash the US these days (just look at that avatar), but you comfy cozy lazy Brits forget, our country was founded on escaping the persecutions of Europe. Maybe it's a gleeful exercise to see some of your sins rub off on the new guy, but on balance, Europe is a far better place today than it's ever been at any other time in history. Maybe we're too jaded, and that's just because we're way too picky?

This kind of reminds me of the kind you see in fitness gyms that are suffering from the "goddess/princess" chronic disorder and usually have workout clothes with that printed across the butt or breasts and then has the nerve to say, "What are you looking at????" especially when they're mediocre, at best...

What I think might be happening is that she is at whatever job she has currently, working for say... 2000 pounds a month, and she's going on and on (She seems the kind to talk), about how her Rich Parents are giving her 1000 pounds a month to buy clothes and rent a 2000 pound a month apartment and so on.... Thus, men think, "rich lady... hit on her", and women think, "spoiled rich bi@#H". Thus her statement is true, that guys hit on her and women are jealous, BUT not for her looks, for her CASH MONEY.

Maybe I should opt out for an early retirement too, I feel other male workers staring me at the factory when I'm not looking... AND IT'S NOT JUST ONE!!

Really, you could take that as a compliment and as an acknowledge of you having value on the dating market, but you just have to do it like that... if it's stalking or you feel uncomfortable, tell them or let the boss handle it or switch department.

Not defending the lady in the OP but this last sentence does not ring true and seems like a consolation prize.

Anyone can have 'inner beauty,' but few can earn real beauty, inside as well as out.

Aesthetics is important, it takes work to look great, and act great. The other lie is that beauty fades with age. There is more to aesthetics than youth but that surely helps.

Aging with grace, wearing clothes that fits you well, knowing how to comport yourself, are all elegance. Few older women have great personalities and elegance. Fewer younger women have it but they do have youth. The saddest thing is someone with no personality but who tries to hold on to youth without wearing age appropriate clothes a la Kim K.

Europe is the pits, even they say that,or why do they all try to get out to the U.S/Canada/Australia/UK, sorry Yamato but I don't think you have a clue as to whats going on, on this side of the Pond.Even the Asians avoid it.

Socially, Europe has made vast strides from any other century or generation we can compare it to, and I can provide some giant examples to make that point. That said, I avoid it economically because it's in a death-spiral of debt being pushed onto the hopeful masses, moreover the currency exchange rates are abysmal thanks to the falling dollar. I wouldn't invest in Europe anywhere west of Poland either, and now that Poland just announced record low interest rates I wouldn't invest there either. If Asians avoid it, and another reason why investing in Asia (Australia, New Zealand or Canada) is a much better idea than risking it in Europe.

Not really, Germany is fuller than ever, especially with asians (Koreans the most). And the economy is flourishing.

Edit: Can I say that? Fuller? Sounds awkward.

being a bit of a pillock, who's spent most of his life staggering around fields, ignoring bands & talking to people, i've met more than my fair share of beautiful women, and most of them are glad of the company. when the conversation gets round to the 'how on earth is someone as good-looking as you single??' stage, as it inevitably does with me (i'm a tryer, sue me!), they all tell the same tale, that men are intimidated by their looks, and think they're unapproachable.

my problem with the dozy bint in the story isn't her looks, it's her vanity, and her arrogance, and the fact that she uses them as a, let's face it, p**s poor excuse to do absolutely nothing for a living except sponge off her parents. she isn't a productive member of society, she's a parasite. she doesn't contribute anything of value, she's a burden. her parents are 70 for gods' sake, they should be enjoying their lives, not asswiping their daughter for the rest of her life because she's too bone idle to work.

Let's do the math:

2,000 quid per month for her rent and bills. Not too shabby of a place, I guess.

1,500 for her designer clothes. That's what you've got to pay if you want to loo chic.

700 on her haircuts. Extensions do need a lot of maintenance, I assume.

320 for the gym. She has to stay in shape, and of course needs a personal trainer; she'd be constantly hit on otherwise.

1,000 Pounds for her socialising. London is indeed expensive.

Makes 5520 Pounds a month. And she was on a 30,000 Pounds a year job before? Seems like that didn't work out too well.

.

worked out just fine for her flombie!

why should she work for a living, earning £30,000 a year when she can sponge £66,000 a year off her parents!

there are millions of people in britain without jobs, most of them want to work but can't get it, and are living on the breadline because of it, and she gives up her job and bleeds her parents dry because the job she DID have wasn't enough to keep her in haircuts & handbags!

she's making a mockery of the unfortunate, and doesn't deserve the sympathy she's so obviously trying for, she deserves nothing but contempt.

she's taking manipulation to new depths, and crying the 'woe is me' tale just doesn't wash.....

I think it is actually a good thing that she is spending her parents money. It's better than it rotting on a bank account.

But that we should pitty her for that, well, that is just weird. I wonder what that book will be like, and what kind of advice will be in it, since she could take an easy way out.

I should imagine you'll be able to pick up a copy quite easily flombie, from 2nd hand bookstores, or the bargain bucket at your local petrol station! even better, just go to your nearest paper-pulping mill a week after it goes on sale and pick up a copy for free!
