BiffSplitkins Posted June 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2013 I promised the wife a vacation this year... We both LOVE the ocean. We are on a very tight budget and I am going to drive from central NY State to wherever we decide. She has been to Cape Cod in the past (I haven't been there). I'd like to visit somewhere that we both have an interest in, but there must be ocean involved. I have a feeling we are going to end up in either in Massachusetts or Maine. So, anyone from there on this forum, I am asking for help! The wife expects seafood every night while we are on vacation. I need an inexpensive place to visit that has that entire 'ocean feeling' with it at a very reasonable price.
Lilly Posted June 10, 2013 #2 Share Posted June 10, 2013 I'm probably prejudiced but I'd recommend Plymouth MA. If you stay in the Manomet section the rates will be cheaper than staying downtown. You won't have to cross the bridge to the Cape and there's plenty of ocean around here.
BiffSplitkins Posted June 19, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted June 19, 2013 So, we've finally decided on Salem, MA. It's close enough to Gloucester for a short visit plus I'm sure we will find much to do in Salem. I told the wife that I'd like to get a blow up mattress for the back of the van and just take all the seats out. I want to duct tape some nylon screen into the rear door opening and use the side doors to get in and out of the van. At night I'd like to back the van up to the ocean, lift the back hatch and enjoy the sound of the ocean all night long. I'm sure most ocean towns probably have some sort of ordiance against that though. They would probably consider us vagrants or something. Especially with NY license plates. :-(
rashore Posted June 19, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) If you are doing Salem, try looking up Winter Island for camping... Edited June 19, 2013 by rashore
