Still Waters Posted June 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted June 10, 2013 A project aimed at creating cyborg cockroaches is being launched at the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh. The insects, intended as a neuroscience learning tool, are controlled via a mobile phone. The cyborg insect is created by attaching a backpack that communicates directly with neurons in the cockroach's antennae. "This is not just a gimmick, the technique is the same as that used to treat Parkinson's disease and in cochlear implants," he told BBC News. http://www.bbc.co.uk...nology-22786371

highdesert50 Posted June 12, 2013 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2013 I would be hard-pressed to find a better metaphor for this project than a cockroach.
Frank Merton Posted June 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2013 I think such critters could be useful for things like cleaning out drains, picking up litter, pulling weeds, painting houses and highways, maybe even (if they are small enough) cleaning your teeth.
