The fast winds of Venus are getting faster

18 June 2013 The most detailed record of cloud motion in the atmosphere of Venus chronicled by ESA’s Venus Express has revealed that the planet’s winds have steadily been getting faster over the last six years.

Venus is well known for its curious super-rotating atmosphere, which whips around the planet once every four Earth days. This is in stark contrast to the rotation of the planet itself – the length of the day – which takes a comparatively laborious 243 Earth days.

The world has gotten stormier over the past two decades—and the reason is a mystery, a new study says.

In the past 20 years, winds have picked up around 5 percent on average.

Extremely strong winds caused by storms have increased even faster, jumping 10 percent over 20 years, according to the new analysis of global satellite data.

The study, the first to look at wind speeds across such a large swath of the planet, bolsters some earlier findings, according to study leader Ian Young, of the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.

"Some regional studies had found similar results, so we suspected there may be an increasing trend," Young said.

Well the fact that the reason for Earth's winds getting faster is unknown and the wind processes on Venus are not fully understood then it shouldn't be difficult for you to answer this question yourself:

Is there a possible connection Waspie?

The correct answer is, of course: unknown.

You are struggling to say that, yes, there is a possible connection, although it would need a new science explanation which isn't recognised in the official science community.

A quote from the article caught my interest:

On top of this long-term increase in the average wind speed, however, both studies have also revealed regular variations linked to the local time of day and the altitude of the Sun above the horizon, and to the rotation period of Venus.
This variation in wind speed with inclination, the position of Venus above and below the Sun's ecliptic plane or the invariable plane which is very close to Jupiter's orbit, fits with the Jupiter Ice Age hypothesis whereby tidal forcing is thought to be the primary driver for the 100ky cycle on Earth.
