UH Astrobiologists Find Martian Clay Contains Chemical Implicated in the Origin of Life

Researchers from the University of Hawaii at Manoa NASA Astrobiology Institute (UHNAI) have discovered high concentrations of boron in a Martian meteorite. When present in its oxidized form (borate), boron may have played a key role in the formation of RNA, one of the building blocks for life. The work was published on June 6 in PLOS One.

The Antarctic Search for Meteorites team found the Martian meteorite used in this study in Antarctica during its 2009-2010 field season. The minerals it contains, as well as its chemical composition, clearly show that it is of Martian origin.

Using the ion microprobe in the W. M. Keck Cosmochemistry Laboratory at UH, the team was able to analyze veins of Martian clay in the meteorite. After ruling out contamination from Earth, they determined boron abundances in these clays are over ten times higher than in any previously measured meteorite.

As you claim to know so much please tell us, how is boron detected in clay and which of the instruments on either Opportunity or Curiosity are capable of measuring it in the quantities found in this meteorite?

It's put up or shut up time. As you have never been able to answer questions like this, I'm guessing you won't do so this time either.

Curiosity was supposedly sent with one of its objectives being to see if life could have arisen on Mars. Obviously if the mission scientists didn't include such instruments on Curiosity as you have mentioned, then WHY not?.

So you are avoiding answering the question as you always do. You don't actually know do you.

The thing is that whilst everyone is entitled to an opinion not all opinions are equal.

The scientists and engineers that designed, operate, and study the results from the Mars missions are experts in their fields. They understand the what instruments will be the most useful and can or can't be sent to Mars within the weight and budgetary restrictions placed on them. They understand what does and doesn't constitute a scientifically interesting location.

You, on the other hand, can't answer even the most basic question asked of you.

Whilst it is true that simply being an expert does not make a person right it does make it more likely. The opinion of the NASA people carries huge weight, your opinion carries virtually none at all.

Yet despite being almost totally ignorant of even the most basic science needed to understand these missions you call NASA liars based on nothing more than your own belief system which has not a single piece of supporting evidence. You claim that NASA is hiding things from the public and your evidence for this is the photographs that NASA releases to the public... you say that seriously without a single iota of comprehension of what a monumentally idiotic argument it is.

That is not an intelligent, logical or rational way to behave, is is the way of the religious zealot.

Now if you want to be more than just some random person on the internet making themselves look foolish with their ridiculous comments you would go away and learn something about the science behind the rovers, about chemistry, about geology about pareidolia, about anything relevant really. That way you could argue your case from a position of knowledge rather than ignorance. But you won't do that will you? The problem is that those people that do actually know what they are talking about simply do not share your view of things. That in itself should tell you something.

Oh, and incidentally, just so you do learn something, the instrument used to detect this boron was the W. M. Keck Cosmochemistry Laboratory's ion microprobe.

It is a large instrument taking up a large part of a room (see the photograph on THIS PAGE). It is far too large to send to Mars.
