Thanks!

I love love aircraft as much as my hubby. I missed the Antonov in Houston? Never heard a word about it.

I need to wake-up! Probably flew over my house on approach.

Hubby said he watched the Globemaster in South Caroline flying in circles with its wing (not the fuselage) cutting through the clouds above making swirls in the clouds.

The first time I saw the Spruce Goose, I thought nothing could ever top it.

Mine has gotta be

What a shame it was stopped in development. The first STOVL aircraft that actually worked. Test pilots were also impressed by it's performance.

This is my favourite by far. It is Colloquially Known as the "Caspian Sea Monster", an Ekranoplan built in Russia, and the subject of my MEng Thesis

I am having some problems with uploading the images, but they can be found here: http://isearch.avg.c...snd=hdr&pid=avg

What are those "missile launching" looking things on top?

In this version they are indeed air - air missile launchers

well this isnt my favourite, (Id agree with Chrlzs about the spitfire)

But I do like 'the story'. Saucer type plane that can take off from land or water, allegedly. I have no idea how serious the project was, at all, tho the claims do sound pretty wild, like fuel and water being mixed to make a cheaper fuel called Aquazine

Russian Tarielka (EKIP) - story of its creation.

If anyone wants to research it - the guys name was Professor Schukin, heres a blurb

"The talk is that professor Schukin, working with specialists form the aviation and space rocket branches of industry have developed a totally new kind of aircraft. It is a craft that flies just above the ground but hits speeds of over 400 mph and can carry up to 100 tons.

This vehicle doesn't require anything special. It can land at any airfield, even the short private ones. It is said that when it has a full load, it needs only 660 yards to take off. Essentially it rides on a cushion of air and because of this, it can land on water too. It doesn't need the thick concrete runways that most heavy planes require.

The vehicle looks like an oblong saucer flying sideways. The vehicle has already flown over the Saratov Airfield in a test. Vehicles that 'fly' slightly off the ground have been tested in Russia for years. This vehicles has a multi fuel system. It can use traditional fuel or gas. It should be cheap to fly using auxiliary dual generator turboshaft engines. Does this vehicle have any relation to a saucer built in Russia that both the U.S. and China have bought rights to? This is unknown at the moment. Could this replace the train?

i'm sure i've seen someone somewhere using the same principle but on a much smaller scale?

maybe the norweigans or the canadians?

i'm sure it was made to fly across lakes, not open seas, but I can't remember where i've seen it??

(a bit vague I know, but i'm sure it wasn't a cheese dream!)
