Sleep Demon?

Mogwai

Recommended Posts

I'm not quite sure how to begin. My husband has been feeling strange for the past few days. Last night, on his way to work he said that he lost all of his strength and that he could barely turn the steering wheel and that he barely recalled the drive. He drives nearly 45 minutes to work and 45 minutes home each day. He called me when he got there and asked me, "Do you ever feel like you have a demon inside you?" I said, "No. Sometimes I feel like I'm outside of my body, but never that I have a demon in me."

Then he has been strangely moody and his answers to every question are, "I don't know. I don't know." He finally told me that he had a strange 'dream' last night, which he sleeps during the day because he works graveyard but he said the room was pitch black. He said that he was laying in bed and he knew he was asleep, but in the dream he woke up and looked toward our master bathroom which doesn't have anything separating it from the master bedroom and a shadowy figure walked out of our closet and approached the foot of the bed, just watching him. My husband said that he couldn't move, no matter how hard he tried and then all of a sudden, the shadowy figure pointed at him and said, "Now, you are mine."

My husband's been talking about Catholic Exorsisms but I wanted to get some imput from someone who believes in these things. I don't want to discount what/who he's feeling inside himself and I can tell that this really worries him. I've done a little research on my own, looking into demons or even apparitions that may come during sleep and the only thing that I could turn up was Incubi and Succubi. I don't think that it could be these though, my husband said that he didn't feel aroused or afraid.

Please, any advice, insights or thoughts are welcome. I know I sound crazy.

Okay, first off, that's terrifying as hell. I am losing sleep tonight, lol.

I honestly couldn't tell you where to begin; the shadowy figure part makes me think of the shadow people, but those manifest in reality, the waking world, not in dreams.

What is his schedule like during the weekends? I don't want to be too invasive but I think that you should keep an eye on him during the day, just to see if he starts doing anything weird.

The dream sounds a lot like sleep paralysis, but that doesn't explain some of the other things you mentioned. I don't discount a paranormal explanation, but there could very well be medical or psychological explanations also, and those are more likely to be the cause. If he's thinking about exorcism, he'll be required to get checked out mentally and physically first anyway, so you should start there.

This sort of sounds like sleep paralysis, to me. But who knows maybe see a neurologist, and a priest.

Thank you all so much for the advice and opinions. I will share them with my husband.

Shou, he has weekends off so he stays awake his first day off and goes to bed that night. Granted, I don't believe too much in ghosts, evil spirits, etc. but since moving into this house we have had some interesting experiences. For example, we were laying in bed talking one night and it was almost as though someone grabbed the end of the bed and just started pushing it back and forth. Then, I was home alone one night, laying in bed and I had turned off the light manually, not with the switch because I wanted to keep the fan running and all of a sudden the light turned back on. Last but not least, our Pit Bull will sit down by the foyer sometimes and stare at the wall and just growl.

My husband talked to one of the neighbors and he confessed that his grandfather died in this house years ago, but he was a good man. So we just call the times when something strange happens, "Grandpa being feisty".

When he feels like he is being oppressed by this demon, he should say a prayer. Command the demon out "In the name of Jesus Christ". I hope this helps, it helped me. Good luck

Your husband should seek out medical attention- better safe than sorry. Maybe something is going on, maybe not... But it is always wise to take ones health into consideration first.

Depending on how spiritual you are, the following might work for you. You need to go big in your mind. Imagine the place where you live, everything there, everything connected to you and your husband and loved ones spiraling outward and connected. Then as your mind walks over that scene piece by piece, infuse each element with a glowing white cross of pure love, concern and empathy. In other words, mentally bless everything, including that bathroom, in your world and protect it by infusing it with this white cross and spiritual goodness. You don't have to get all whipped up. In fact, a calm and easy demeanor is best as you do this work.

Then, go to a church that is known for sublime and humble spirituality...no holy rollers or weird new age churches. Avoid unitarians. Maybe an old catholic church. Go in and sit quietly. Absorb the massive energy collected there; the well wishing. Pray and offer humble offerings of devotion. Then, when you get home, light some of those holy saint candles and draw in the church to connect its energy to them and the energy flows into your house and life through these lit candles. Intend the energy of the church and the larger spiritual community that believes in it to flow into, through and around your house in a perpetual motion. Like a giant river flowing through. Renew the ceremony as often as you feel the need. When your husband suffers. When you suffer. When you want to wish well to another.

The demon will find these new set of surroundings as welcoming and friendly as a roll in cactus and broken glass. Keep everything light and let the attacks roll off your minds: don't dwell on them. Demons feed on fear, disruption and your obsessing on his presence in your life. So infuse your house with perpetual swirling light and protection and watch your demon problem shrink away.

Again, I want to thank everyone for their opinions and advice. It is truly appreciated!

With that being said, my husband's savior came in the form of a small, teen, red fox. The animal connected with him and they shared stir fry together, of course the fox ate all of the meat and pineapple, but left hubby with the rice and vegetables. Ever since that night, my husband has been at peace. :) Maybe sometimes, all one needs is assurance that they are content in their life and who better to reaveal that to you, than Mother Nature?

Sounds like some altered state issues. His symptoms have a twinge of sleep apnea and possibly even narcolepsy. These things manifest in all sorts if ways. Have him go in for a sleep study immediately.

Your husband is suffering from a sleep disorder - nothing more.

Everything you're reporting is textbook sleep paralysis. I would also hazard a guess that he has sleep apnea as well. Sleep disorders are a serious medical issue that is epidemic in our society. It also sounds like he's struggling to stay awake on his drive to and from work and this can be very dangerous.

He needs to seek out medical treatment immediately at a sleep disorder center. He should have a sleep study done and follow whatever course of treatment they prescribe.

i suffer from sleep paralysis myself and I have a lot of things like this happen to me. I am usually hazy and groggy the next day due to a lack of sleep. Hallucinations can be very powerful when you are between being asleep and awake. I have had many "shadowy" figures standing at the foot of my bed and also have had the overwhelming feeling that something "evil" was out to get me. His behavior could be due to stress and little sleep. I find I have an episode most often when I am having trouble falling asleep and a changing schedule do to working the graveyard shift could account for that. If it is indeed sleep paralysis I would suggest that he keeps a strong mind and reminds himself that everything he had experienced is not real. It took me years but I can go back to sleep very quickly now after an episode. I would suggest, like other posters, to seek medical examinations.

Although I am not a very strong believer in the supernatural some of my family members are. The experience you are describing sound a lot like what my mother and three younger siblings experienced some years back. They all account for each others stories. Lights coming on seemingly at random, having your bed pushed in the middle of the night, being grabbed tightly by an unknown force and waking up with bruising. Although I can't say their story is true I see no reason why all of them would lie to me and the rest of the family so I wouldn't rule out supernatural either.

Also, even if you somehow discover with little doubt in your own mind that the events like the lights coming on and the bed moving were somehow supernatural I still would not rule out sleep paralysis for the shadowy figure.

If you watch shows like Celebrity Ghost Stories, it's pretty obvious that a good deal of the experiences the "celebrities" are relating are simply sleep paralysis episodes.

Again, I want to thank everyone for their feedback. I've been trying to talk him into seeing a doctor, but he refuses unless he feels like he's dying. However, there is an update to all of this. Now, he's not only seeing the shadow people, but shadow animals as well. I read up on this and most people see smaller animals or insects...he is seeing deer, elk and larger animals. He is also now experiencing flashes of light which he can only describe as the flash that comes off of a camera. Any thoughts?

SSilhouette,

I wanted to thank you especially for your advice. It was well thought out and quite spiritual. I can tell that you love and have faith in God and not some building, as I do. I believe in the power of positive energy as well...but neither me nor my husband fear any of this. It is an inconvenience at most, but when it begins impacting my husband's mentallity, that is when I get ticked. I believe that every being has the right to present itself and dwell as it wishes, but don't mess with me and mine. I'm very protective. LOL

Salutations,

How would you explain my experiences with this? I do not suffer from sleep paralysis, narcolepsy, sleep apnea, or anything like that. I am also not a huge believer of the supernatural. I am not trying to impugn anything you are saying, but I do believe that things happen in this world that just can't be explained by science or rational. Who knows, though? I'm still trying to convince my husband to go to the doctor to have a sleep study done. :)

i suffer from hypnagogia and sleep paralysis and i can tell you from experience your husband is not experiencing paranormal. So far i have seen, aliens, shadow men, my father, monsters, humans, a clown that was standing over my girlfriend, zombies, ghosts, lizards etc. I also experience where i am not in my room, i have seen myself in an abandon forest next to a temple ruins, dream i was on the work floor. the list goes on. So in short, part of the brain has not woken up and you see things.

The triggers can be many causes, weird sleeping patterns, stress, anxiety, physical exhaustion, eating food before bed, drinking sugary or caffeinated drinks, lack of sleep, certain medication's side effects, paranoia, being upset, trauma, certain body pain, sleeping at an odd position, alcohol and guilt.

I recommend seeing a sleep specialist like i have

Why does the OP's text get larger each year? And why the thread-necro?

My father had the symptons first described in your original post (tired/weak/stuff). Ended up having a heart attack. While he wasn't scared, my mother was. Not once did anyone think it anything other than natural causes, and it was a good thing, too, or my father would be dead at this time.

And I'll echo Brian Topp's suggestions. His analysis and advice are always good.

Please, though, don't make your text so large anymore. Reading your post one letter at a time is hard to do with my condition.

Its probably just that hat man guy he seems to bother a lot of people. I wouldn't go to the extremes of exorcism.

Thank you all for your opinions and advice. I will talk it over with my husband and encourage him to have a sleep study done as well as see a physcian about his fatigue and anxiety. :)

P.S. I apologize for making my text large. My eye sight is horrible {I'm legally blind without my contacts/glasses} so I do it so I can read my posts afterward.

Okay...it's getting worse. I've been trying to brush it off, but now he is being followed by a little girl. The only difference is, this is no ordinary shadow person. She is in full detail. My husband says that he can make out every feature from her shoulder length, dark hair...to the fact she's about 4.5 ft. tall...to her casual jeans and t-shirt clothes. My husband feels aggitation dripping off of her like water.
