The Conjuring

and-then

Just wondering if anyone here has seen or plans to see this movie. I just read a few dozen tweets about it and I can say I'll not be watching it FOR SURE! I believe in demon possession and I think movies that explore such issues (like the EXORCIST) can be invitations to such possession.

So what do you think? Will you be watching this movie?

Yes...with a five pointed circled star underneath me for protection and a case of holy water. Then after watching the movie, I will exorcise myself and rebuke me...just in case.

As a believer ,it totally creeped me out . I've never seen a movie rated R for scariness before.

Some parts are quite hair raising . The demon was quite powerful .

I know they dramatized it a bit,but some of the background on Lorraine and Ed Warren ,was quite interesting.

I read a lot about this case .

I find the seriously evil cases of demonic possession always involve kids .

The Exorcist,A haunting in CT ,Amityville. It reaffirms my belief that demons are cowards who always attack the weak ,especially kids .

One of the daughters has written a trilogy of books about the incidents they all experienced . I'm curious to read it now.

I don't believe watching such a movie can lead ro possession however .That would mean 1000s of people can be affected by seeing a movie.

If that were the case, the exorcist would have caused a wave of possessions world wide .

There was one part where Ed describes the progression of possession .

I've never heard it put this was before .

Infestation ,oppression ,possession .

I realized I had gotten to oppression before I decided to fight back.

Knowing how they work is a tool that gives you power.

It also showed how they latch on to your body ,literally .

I have known that for years .

I dont know if demons are more coward than lazy, kids are just more open to influences.

That said, I'm definetely gonna watch it once I get my hands on it. No protection either, because I have innate protection of resistant mind. Has made believing in things harder for me, but also I believe it works as a barrier against those things. It's good to test whether my beliefs are true or not. And the movie itself sounds awfully interesting, especially after reading Simbi's take on it.

I'm not worried about demon possession, but this is one movie, in a long long time, whose trailer has me wondering if it might actually be creepy.

I think I'll go see it. Alone.

I won´t be watching it because I am generally not interested in Hollywood productions where they try to scare you with stupid props and sound effects.

Demon possession? I am not superstitious, so am I am immune to that crap. Basically, you are talking about self-hypnosis, so if you are a believer, then yes, you can create all sorts of problems for yourself.

I love horror films, though after just now looking at the trailer, which is very good, I begin to suspect that as so much was shown in the trailer, then you already saw all the good bits. I hope not though.

I have never been able to understand why so many humans somehow enjoy having the **** scared out of them?

I love movies, but I don't like to be frightened. Give me music and dancing anyday, but not the blood & guts and scary stuff.

People actually believe that watching a scary movie about demonic possession can cause a demonic possession? Isnt that like believing that cameras steal peoples souls?

Haven't you noticed the decline of appreciating subjectivity?

Come, come now, man! That's just incredibly ridiculous. But it does steal a very small piece of you every time your picture is taken, so it's a good idea to get both the negative and picture from the photographer as soon as possible. Can't have pieces of yourself hanging on peoples walls or placed in their wallets. If so, they would own and have a piece of you.

Feel free to thank me for enlightening you about this. ;)

I look at demon possession as nothing more than make believe, but darn it, they can make the odd good horror flick from the same ideas...And have done lol

I'll probably watch it when it hits Netflix.

One of the nice side effects of being an Atheist, is that Demon possession doesn't hold much water for me either...

Not that I won't be suitably creeped out while watching!!!

From wiki;

"They go to the nearest Catholic Church to organize an exorcism." What, like rounding up a posse?

It takes approval from a Bishop to authorize an exorcism. Anyways, I'm sure it will be a scary blockbuster judging from Ed and Lorraine's involvement with the Amityville Horror.

Looks pretty scary...but for some reason, I have my doubts it will be as disturbing as the Exorcist was...just me.

This might be a little off topic but not completely.

I have noticed something over the last few years and it makes me wonder.

We all know that a certain percentage of the population is highly susceptible to suggestion. There are folks that will believe just about anything. Have you ever wondered about the flood of "supernatural and paranormal" TV shows and movies? From pure fiction to "reality" tv, the airwaves and box office routinely stays filled with "weirdness".

From "Ghost Hunters" to "Paranormal State" to "Paranormal Witness"......shows about demon hunting and exorcism...alien abductions and "ancient aliens". All this stuff portrayed as "factual...

Have you ever wondered if someone is trying to "warp" a certain percentage of the populations comprehension of reality? I personally don't actually believe in any of the stuff. I guess I give it a somewhat tongu-in-cheek nod that "anything is possible" but that's about as far as it goes. BUT...there is a certain percentage of the population that gobbles this stuff up as "fact"...and I find that alarming. What happened to "reality"?

Anywho...I'm curious about others thoughts on the idea.

I'll rent the DVD. Looks OK on the trailer, but it's pretty easy to make something look good or scary in a trailer.

I don't believe in the crap though. It's just a movie.

Nothing wrong with a good scare. Different strokes for different folks. Wether a roller coaster or a fast car, people like a thrill.

I got the wife to see it and she hates these types of movies. She liked it too. Not sure what I can tell you but it's worth seeing in the theater. As we were walking out some 6'5" dude next to me said he was going to go home and watch cartoons.

Jeremiah65,I think you're right. It's a way of controlling the petty bougieuas masses.Sorry for the misspelling. In other words, it's a way to control the masses or a significant portion who are like sheep and will believe anything that the state whether communist, socialist, etc. puts before them. As Goebbels said, repeat a lie often enough it becomes the truth, or words to that effect.Do I believe in ghosts,yes.. But I believe in them not because of tv.I have heard old family stories of ghosts my dad's side brought over from Germany. He,his mother ,and his great Aunt Louise all, when someone in the family was going to pass on, would have a death portent dream. Each one's dream was different from the other. Grandma was a vase of flowers in a room, Aunt Louise was back in Riga in the old country and she would see a horse drawn hearse going down the street.Daddy would hear in his dream this beautiful woman's vocie singing. If he ever named the tune, I don't recall it.

And look at ancient man who buried tools or other items with their dead, even Cro Magnon and Neanderthal man did so.They did it because they believed in an afterlife.

Even ghosts are mentioned in the bible and ancient legends as are demons. What the rise in such interest is I don't know.Maybe it is in a way the desire to conect with something spiritual or in that realm whether good or evil. And just because God made humanity, doesn't mean he couldn't have created other beings. The bible talks about the Sons of God finding the Daughters of Men pleasing and so they came from heaven and mated with them.

But yes, i understand your concerns. When I see Jay Walking on the Tonight show and listen sometimes to the answers these people give, I just want to shake them and say how can you be so stupid. Most of them are only concerned about themselves and can't relate to abstract thought or things that require great depth in thinking.I like reading about knights, the middle ages,Templars, Cathars, etc. Why,because I am always reading especially history books of various kinds.

And too, I had ancestors who lived in those times. I don't know if any of my mother or father's relatives were in the Templars as they did have knights in Germany.

Not sure about Hungary either where momma's family is from. But with the long military tradition on daddy's side, someone may have belonged at least to the Teutonic Knights anyhow.

These people aren't like us here, who think about more than the here and now.

I might go see the movie, but I still don't understand how the family could stay in the house for 10 years with all that going on.

If they heard it on TV then it must be true!

Honestly, I kind of like watching Ancient Aliens. They do bring up some interesting stuff....Not that I believe much of it, but it's kinda cool to think about....
