Church of England Declares War

Recommended Posts

The UK's thriving payday loan sector is in hot holy water. The new head of the Church of England, an 11-year oil-industry veteran, is hoping to undercut the business by forging ties with credit unions to offer better interest rates to the poor.

The Church of England has made a former oil industry executive its new leader. He now aims to defuse the conflicts between religion and the financial world.

The working meal in mid-July wasn't exactly exemplary for a "church for the poor." The menu consisted of swordfish carpaccio, pasta with prawns, tuna steak, semifreddo, fresh fruit and coffee. Nevertheless, the two church leaders, who had taken office within only two days of each other, quickly came to an agreement.

read the otherday that the investment in wonga was a mistake by a misleading investor or something like that. don't think they did justice on the last line of that artical. i think i had to pay 6 pound interest for borrowing 20 pounds for three days with wonga (if i failed to pay interest would go through the roof), interest rates are crazy but is quick. poverty has changed in britain and i guess the church is trying to change as people dont accept charity nowadays. just benefits that some people think they deserve, even though its for people who cant help them selfs for a multitude of reasons.

ummmmmmm im unsure about this as its says about money lending in the bible but the church still does alot of charity on behalf of believers. i guess posterity will know if this is a good idea.

QUOTE-

But unlike German reformer Martin

Luther, who wanted to see all usurers sent to the gallows, Welby preaches solutions from within the system.

.

shame they didn't have him on board during the 1990's, when the church was investing in arms manufacturers.....

no way!!!! did not know about that. that should be some interesting reading material for me later. religions arnt taxed so i wonder whether the loans will be taxed and every thing else will stay the same. hope it doesnt get the foot in the door for them to be taxed for tithes.

i know some peeps think the major churches are frivolous with tithes but the smaller protestant churches are under alot more scrutiny from their congrgation about what happens to their money. if the majors churches are taxed the smaller churches will suffer.

p.s luther is a bad ass lol ( in a good way)

it's well worth watching (10mns or so), as mark thomas is a political activist & a comedian too- like the bas.**** offspring of lenny bruce and bill hicks.
